Am I a mad man? Living life on the edge? Or just crazy?
...I now own a VAG product without a warranty.

Surprisingly *knocking on wood intensifies*, mine has been rock solid since the warranty expired.
Not a single problem.

VWs are probably better than they were circa 2003, but I’m so traumatised that I still won’t buy another one.

I think we should take bets on how long before something breaks.

I traded in my mkv gti with 36007 miles. Those last 7 miles to the dealership were incredibly nerve wrecking.

Only 36,000 mile warranty? My parents provide 3 year/36,000 mile warranties on parts they replace for customers. That’s insane that an independent repair shop can provide the same warranty as a brand new car.

But I bet your independent repair shop doesn’t do German Engineering™, amiright?

Haha they work on mostly asian but we give german car customers the same warranty. So they don’t do german engineering but usually use the asian variants that work better.

The current 6 year/72,000 mile warranty puts the GTI so far above everything else in the price range it’s ridiculous. That said, I think you’ll be fine! Anything that breaks will still be cheaper than getting a new car.

I remember making a post on here about a side marker going out on my previously trouble free mkvi GTI. Someone remarked it was the beginning of the end, and it was. Sold that car in less than a year

I got a new turbo in my 14 GTI for free at 59,000 under powertrain. I’ve got the odd P0215 lately which is soma thing with the intake that might have special extended warranty. Other than that it’s been great.

Warranty is up after 36k? Jesus. I have a CPO BMW that is still under warranty at 95k+ miles. Just got a new radiator for free. Shit, they gave me free maintenance until 50k miles. I got free pads and rotors at 48k.

Check engine light in 3... 2... 1...
The powertrain warranty is still good, though, as is the emissions (catalytic converter) warranty. Hopefully you won’t need either, but, well... VAG...

Does the warranty provide a loaner for the inevitable trips to the dealer?
