This should’ve been on that list.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Now for takes:

The Veyron, sure, but where’s the McLaren F1? It was the first hypercar, built with nothing spared, unencumbered by anything, never once held back, won Le Mans with little more than a kit, tune, and different headlights. No other hypercar since has done that last one, but the F1 was the template upon which Bugatti and Koenigsegg will build their own world-conquering hypercars.

I feel the OG NSX can be here too. The sensible supercar, designed ahead of its time, still sublime to this day. It proved that sportscars need not be too bombastic, and proved that any marque can make a real, purchasable halo car.

Ah, the GT40, made to stick it up Enzo’s ass. We enjoy his saltiness to this day, but I seriously think that had Enzo caved in, we would have a different history. He was rude, sure, but I get his point—I won’t sign away my livelihood and passion (inb4 George Lucas) either, especially if I realized that these people might not have the best interests. Maybe Henry would’ve kept him in charge, maybe not, but I do think Ferrari would have lost more had the merger was OK’d.

Finally, Miata. Jeez, why is The Answer not on that list?

You can’t possibly tell me the Qashqui is more important than the Model T. Or most of the cars in this list for that matter.

I was going to say something harsh and probably vulgar about the Miata, but sadly you’re right. It didn’t invent the roadster, it didn’t really even improve on the concept, but it did save the roadster. It took something great (Alfa Spider, MGA/B/Midget, Sprite, TR#, etc) that was largely unreliable and, in a lot of ways, a bit terrible to live with and made it livable.

Hot take - That list is terrible.

Should be renamed: Here are 10 cars, sort of.

“ 8. Nissan Qashqai

For inventing crossovers”

Kinja'd!!!

I’d be okay with it if it was true but the RAV4 was doing this crossover thing 12 years before the kumquat came around. (to say nothing of its fore-bearers like the eagle and cherokee)

Nissan Qashqai invented crossovers? *Checks wikipedia* First gen in 2006? What about the Subaru Forester or Outback? Or the Rav-4? How about the AMC eagle? The idea of a crossover was well off the ground by 2006.

That’s a British list all right.

No USA list could exclude the Pontiac GTO. That would be a massive oversight.

The claim is absurd, but the Outback was clearly a wagon (a bit less clear on the current model).

Really surprised the Golf didn’t make it.

That’s not a good list. Pretty sure the SSC hasn’t tricked-down anything to production cars. The Veyron should not be on the list over the F1. The F1 created the category of hypercars. Love them or hate them, you have to give a nod to the BMW 2002 or e30 M3 on lists like this for defining the the sports sedan and brining homologated cars to the masses.

Why the hell is the G wiz on the list. I don’t feel like that changed the world in the slightest.

The Outback was the lifted, trucky version of the Legacy Wagon. To me a crossover is a hatchback/wagon style design with added body cladding and a lift. The Outback Sport is even closer to a standard crossover being the lifted version of the Impreza.

We’ll have to disagree then. To be the Forester has always been a CUV, but I don’t think a tiny lift and some gray plastic makes a CUV. I would classify the V70 XC/XC70 and the Audi allroads as wagons as well.

Veyron, nope. thrust ssc? nope. defender? why not the willys army jeep? that inspired every off roader including the defender.

Some of these cars are super well thought out, others arent at all.
