On a scale of Not Bad to JFC, how bad is your Miata in snow?

Hope I don’t sound like an idiot but I don’t know what JFC is. That being said, I can say that my car is surprisingly good in the snow. If my car can’t handle the weather than nobody should bother driving. Winter tires and a LSD make all the difference.

My issue may be no LSD then. I have the upgrade planed for the spring right. My 91 is horrible in the snow, like, I shouldnt even leave the house when there is snow, bad.

Assuming you have winter tires than it is definitely because you don’t have a LSD. I’d never drive a RWD car in the snow without one.

Oh, you will definitely enjoy the difference. Since I live in Florida I don’t ever get to see beautiful, beautiful snow, but my first two Miatas, without LSDs, would tend to go sideways whenever I took off from a red light in heavy rain unless I was kind of light on the gas pedal. But in the latest one with an LSD, I can floor it from a standstill even in hard rain and it still wants to take off straight. That’s lots more fun!

His snow tires also have two full seasons and like 30k miles on them. I know this because they are my secondhand tires lol. But yeah open diff definitely doesnt help.

Yeah but with the LSD if you floor it in the rain and turn at the same time, the car will get extra sideways. Whereas with the open diff it just spins a tire and is slow as shit.

Agreed, Miatas are excellent utility vehicles with some mild modifications.

Like for wheel transport on a roll bar:

Skis on a luggage rack:

Or transporting all of my possessions in a cross country 4000 mile move:

The Miata is the only car I have that doesnt have a LSD.
