Don’t get welding slag in your eye. Currently waiting in the hospital to have it poked at.

Update- seems to be abraded but nothing serious.

metal in eye is bad news, they wont let you do MRI later on. or at least, they have a huge process for people with prior metal in eye things

Hmm something something eye protection. What was that something something part? I think it was “definitely don’t need”. Okay got it!

Too many times have I gotten crap into my eyes when I should have been wearing something. Usually its rust flakes and dirt from the bottom of my Miata. Can’t imagine how much it would suck to get something like welding slag in there! Good luck.

I’ll just flip the mask up a bit and chip that off.

*tap*

Oh bollocks.

Thought I’d flushed it out but not sure.

Does this mean you’ll be putting a Jolly Roger on the MR2? (Joking aside, I do hope there’s no lasting damage)

Alternatively - best way to remove metal from said eyeball.

The problem with being a glasses wearer - most eyepro you can find makes seeing impossible, or is so god-awful uncomfortable to wear that you can’t really use it for long.

Others in the series include ‘don’t slice your hand with a chisel’ & ‘yes that boiling water is hot’

Time to break out this cautionary tale again. A friend of mine was using a wire wheel mounted on a bench grinder to polish a pony keg for use as a gas tank on a dune buggy. One of the wires decided it didn’t want to be part of the process any more and flung itself free. In a shot worthy of any movie-grade sniper, the wire landed dead-center in his left eye.

He really was lucky in several ways. The wire stopped short of the retina, so there was no retinal damage. He had the sense not to grab the wire and yank it out, so the corneal damage was limited to a single puncture instead of additional tears. His dad was a volunteer fireman & part-time EMT, so his dad knew what to do.

Now he has an artificial cornea. It’s somewhat retroreflective, so in the right conditions, his eye lights up like a cat’s eye which is great for scaring kids at Halloween.

Aren’t glasses a form of eye protection, though? Bonus!

Also: watch out when you pull off a pressurized fuel line. Fuel in the eyes hurts like hell

You can get prescription safety glasses. I’m sure they’re expensive and ugly though.
