I’ve had solid experiences with Hyundai, and I bet this is the start of something amazing. Looking forward to hearing reviews on it/maybe test driving one at some point since I need to buy a car by the end of the year.

If your hatchback isn’t built by Koreans, you might as well ride a bike

Hyundai had made a really appealing car. Depending on how the reviews are I will probably at least look at an N when I start looking for a new daily driver a few years down the line.

I rented a Hyundai and put 550 miles on it in a day. It was a decent car, apart from the over-boosted steering. It was so touchy and yet so dull, it ruined the whole car. I really hope they gave the steering in this some feel. I’m a little disappointed it doesn’t have a mechanical LSD, but the rest of it sounds really appealing. I also like the styling.

I will admit, our Elantra GT’s steering is lacking.

My dad bought a Sonata when the transmission on his Regal started to go. I had left home and started my first job so I didn’t get to drive it when he originally got it. When I came home for xmas that year I got to test it out; I was shocked how bad the steering was. This was months before I even got my M3, so I was comparing it to my 1997 Explorer.

Very curious to know if they have the chops to properly tune the suspension and handling yet. All I’ve read so far is that they build a good car, but are still stuck with commuter-car feeling driving dynamics.

275HP is all well and good, but if the car sucks to drive then why bother? It’s like the Angry Neon; yes it had tons of power, but in all other respects that car was cheap and shitty. Trouble is now buyers want nice things like BT and CarPlay and actual seats. Dodge got away with their SRT4 because cars could still have nothing in the way of creature comfort when they released it. Hyundai/Kia have to make their cars nice places to sit And be fun to drive as well.

I still hope they succeed. More competition is better for us.

I just hope Hyundai lets you pick other colors for that accent stripe on the bottom. Purple or orange would look way cooler than red. If not there’s always plast-I-dip

Now that GHK has proven they can make cars that can drive well, there’s literally no reason not to drive a Hyundai, Genesis, or Kia. Prove me wrong.

I am pretty psyched as well, I quite like the direction of the current styling Hyundai has going for it (I really like the new Elantra GT).

I know the Veloster has always been a bit of a dog, but I quite like them anyway...REALLY like the new ones, so hoping the Veloster N is something special!

I shame there will be no more Accent hatchbacks though...the 2018s will only be in sedan form! :(

Guess I’ll have to go for a Rio if I want another Hyundai/Kia group small hatchback. Not that it is a bad car, I quite like the looks of the new Rio as well - I imagine it would be a nice daily runabout. :)

If it’s the same as the i30N Performance, it’s got an electronically actuated mechanical LSD (like the GTI Performance). Giving it the beans to tighten your line never gets old.

Mine was built by Americans from blueprints they obtained from some Germans.

Most will understeer right off the road when driven like this. It is intentional because it is safer for a novice driver to know/expect/fear understeer, plus FWD cars will understeer by their nature.

What you’re seeing in the video is a handbrake slide. I can’t hear the sound, but that’s all I saw that was really throwing it. The curves are no different from any RWD car.

My car is FWD, but it’s unusual in that it will oversteer when you lift off the gas a bit (basically the exact opposite of what an RWD car does) and to pull it out you give it gas (that is, you do exactly what a Mustang driver drifting into a crowd does). It’s so balanced that it is really fun to drift it around a cloverleaf, especially in the rain. I did a handful of those during the Oppo Cruise...

Really? I have zero experience with handbrake turns. The beefy brake upgrade necessitated making do with a handbrake much too weak to lock the tires up...

I’m still bummed I missed you guys on the high-speed curvy section. Will try not to get lost next time to join in the shenanigans!
