Wait- under 30k for a 280 hp v6 Passat? I’ll still whine about the lack of a 3rd pedal but that’s a NP!

That seems pretty solid for under $30k. I haven’t driven a Passat of this generation so I can’t comment on if it’ll be exciting or not, but it looks nice at least.

If its not a GTi or Golf R, its not happening.

Yea but the Passat is boring and insultingly decontented.

I mean its ok. Its roomy so there’s that. But its cheap feeling and sounding, the lower engines can be rough too. I do have a soft spot for the R Line trim though.

I’d have to see it - haven’t spent any time in a Passat in years. But if they take the same route they did with the last Jetta (rear drums FFS) I’m out.

VW NA has been taking that route. This gen Passat is cheap feeling and hallow. But damn if it isnt roomy.

A nice bump to keep competitive with the Fusion Sport and Camry V6 which are both over 300 hp now. I can’t imagine any of these “hot” 250 hp+ midsize sedans really sell in big numbers. I think the primary customer is someone who doesn’t care about cars but just wants the “best Accord you have.”

I’ve actually been seeing quite a bit of the new Camry XSE’s complete with red interiors. That’s the only one of the family “performance” sedans I have seen. I have never seen a Fusion Sport on the road or a Accord Sport. They are all solid buys though but the Fusion is the priciest out of all of them

I’ve only seen one or two Fusion Sports on the road. I see more Edge Sports. I was discussing the midsize market with someone the other day and we decided to look up prices on the Fusion Sport - Ford and the dealers are offering a lot of discounts - asking prices are just under $30k. At that price it is really tempting, but they don’t seem to move well.

Also those red Camry interiors are pretty cool. Also also holy crap you changed your avatar picture I think it had been the same the whole time I’ve been here.

Yea I see a lot more Edge Sports surprisingly, which is weird considering that loaded a Edge Sport can be nearly 50 grand (which at the same time doesnt give me good hope about the weird Edge ST). But yea dealers have huge discounts on them. They can easily be found for under 32 grand and in some places under 30.

Yea they are I wish more companies would offer red interiors. But yea I changed it. Its been the same for years.

That’s a lot of car for the money, except the fact that it’s a VW.

Most top-spec sedan buyers just don’t want the perceived or actual risk of an offbeat or unknown car brand, but they still want to feel sporty.

That’s why my employer exists. We have had 5 or 6 18 Accord Sports in for red interior. It looks so good under white or black.

I think that the Passat NMS should be discontinued and we should be making and getting the B8 here in North America.

I also think that the old version of the vr6 (not old really, its still being sold) sufficed; adding a red line and shit like that is only going to make what is a great Q car into a weird abomination. I vote the VW offers a sport package with an LSD and magnetic suspension on the vr6 rather than this.

Having met people with some of these top-spec sedans over the years you are correct. Personally, though, I can’t imagine spending upwards of $40k on a fully-loaded Accord instead of a mid-spec TLX.

The B8 is too nice for them to offer it here. I’ll keep saying it, VW NA has no idea what they are doing with our market. One one hand, refined up market cars like the Tourage, the Golf R and the upcoming Arteon make it seem like they want to push themselves up market. But then on the other, cheap decontented vehicles like the NMS Passat, Atlas etc speak to them halfassing on their every man car thing. They need to pick one or the other.

Thie vehicle is weird though and I dont get why they just didnt do this to the R Line, which looks good instead of a whole other model that no one really asked for.

Well, I think they know they’re sort of a niche-y brand, at least in the US (the big volume, rich country) and Canada (the rich country) Here in Mexico we get European DM cars, and US DM cars, and Latin DM cars... because its a big brand.

I think that the Passat b8 is far too nice to compete with ford, I agree with you there... perhaps they don’t want to canibalize Audi sales? Who knows, I doubt it would dent Audi sales, but it would dent acura sales.. if they retool the Chattanooga plant for the b8 and put it on sale here it would be a great success in my point of view, far more successful than the NMS

I dont know what their deal is. I dont think it has anything to do with infringing on Audi sales. They have already shown they are willing to get close to Audi likeness with how refined the Golf R is and how luxurious the Touraeg and CC were.
