Heading home to Austin from Nola, but my customary seat at the con is being filled by my wife, and my brother in law, a pretty big guy, is in the right seat. I spent last night puking my guts out. Not sure if it was something I ate or something more sinister. Age has a way of making one expect the worst. Middle row of the Oddy isn’t too terrible, but I miss my view out the front, I’m bored shitless, and I have a bit more respect for my kids who always sit back here. It’s been many, many years since I sat in the back for a 9-hour road trip.

Thanks. I’m just hoping that what I saw in the bowl was the red wine I drank at bedtime and not blood. Like I said, age has a way of making you a hypochondriac.

My daughter had a bug last week and pukesd the entire flight from Seattle to Atlanta. It’s going around. Hope you feel better quick.

Sorry to hear that, and I feel your pain. I’ve got a couple of other things going on that add to my concern. Hopefully I’ll get to see my own doctor tomorrow.

It’s better than driving after puking or about to.

As a kid I used to share the backseat of a Ford Escort with two others on our annual 26 hour drive to Florida. You might be miserable but be thankful you’re miserable in a minivan.

Like I said, reasonably comfortable. When I first moved to live with my dad in 1976, my brother and I made 8-hour trips to PA in the backseat of a Camaro, no idea which year (my brother would know). Not 26 hours, but you couldn’t even see out the window.

Agreed. Didn’t sleep well either, and my heads not quite right. As bored as I am, best to leave the driving to others.

Thanks. Feeling a bit better. Nothing in the stomach but some Coca Cola. Coke can be a wonder medicine. Probably won’t eat until tomorrow.

Boredom is far more preferable than driving tired.

Did you have more than 1 hand grenade? Because if so, that’ll happen

If a hand grenade is liquor, then no. Hadn’t had any drink since last Tuesday. Until the wine last night.

New Orleans strongest drink. In all my years there, whenever someone out of town came to visit and bragged about how much they could drink, one hand grenade inevitably led to vomit

No thanks. I’m too old for that now. I do, however, have my own Bourbon Street story from about 1987.

I prefer to drink gatorade/Powerade when I’m pukey cause it tastes the same going out as it does going in. Which is nice.

I think I’m over the pukey part. Actually getting a little hungry. Gatorade is better for a host of reasons, but the Coke just tasted sooooo good.

I went to Tulane 2000-2004. New Orleans is a great town.

Wow, the Ody used to have sunvisor extenders? That’s my “F*ck Honda” reason #27 of the day.
Seriously, decontenting vehicles in successive years is very depressing no matter who does it.

Feeling better today, thanks. Finally got home around 8:30, had a bowl of chicken soup and went to bed. Still a bit of a headache, but I think my insides are more or less back to normal. I thought it might have been something I ate, but I’m thinking now it was more of a bug of some sort.

It’s hard to know for sure. My son is down with a sore throat and body aches, but no fever. I was tired and had a headache after the con, but that’s just the way I get when I’m around large crowds for too long. I’m pretty sure that will be my last deep dive into comic consumerism!

It will almost certainly be my last visit to a Wizard World show. The whole thing was so poorly run. We were waiting in line to get Stan’s autograph, and they moved a whole bunch of people to the head of the line who didn’t get their autographs earlier in the day because WW screwed up the schedule. Then there were all the VIPs ahead of us. We had been in line for close to two hours when they came out to see if people would be willing to come back on Sunday (they would at least be given free admission to the con). Since we couldn’t come back, I went to the desk and asked for a refund, despite all the signs announcing that all sales were final. I surrendered my ticket to a guy who promised that I’d be refunded, but all I can really do is hope for the best. We did get our picture, so there’s that.
There is a different show in Dallas in April, Fan World Expo. So far, Jason Momoa is scheduled to attend, so my wife can continue stalking him. It will be interesting to see how another company runs the show. But I’m pretty sour on spending beaucoup bucks for somebody to write their name.

I’m hoping that the kids will learn that in the big scheme of things, it really isn’t worth it. What they really wanted was their pictures with Stan Lee autographed by Stan Lee. They showed up Friday for the photo with the intent on getting it signed on Saturday , but he was doing autographs only by the time they got there. So, they got his signature on one of his stock posters. My son was griping Saturday afternoon about not having enough money to buy something he really wanted because he had spent so much on meeting Stan Lee. :)

Aw, dang. My son just came back from the doctor’s office. Type A flu. I’m p ro bably going to get it, but I’m hoping he wasn’t contagious Saturday. Stay healthy, my friend.

That may well be what I got a touch of. I’ve heard that the flu is bad this year. I hope your son feels better soon.
