My wife caught me mid-sentence as I explained why I decided to change the oil at sunset in 25-degree temps yesterday. My daughter is always up for anything. Her older brother can be the princess at times.

I’ve gotta say in Honda’s defense (which is rare) that they sure do make routine maintenance easy. My Passat took almost an hour with the belly pan, all the fasteners, 6.3 quarts, etc. The only downside is the upside-down filter placement means that about a half quart drains out while you unscrew it, then dribbles all over the subframe afterwards.

That’s awesome to see your daughter out there helping you! Mine like to help sometimes too.

Wait, VW didn’t just put an access hole for the drain bolt?

Hey if you change it warm, you’ve got heat right there.

Same in my household, except my daughter is the older one who likes to help with the cars. She’s talking about going into engineering . My son is the younger one who’s more interested in the biological sciences and couldn’t care less about cars.

Die Gloriehole is only available in German models. Weirdos.

I’ve always maintained that German engineers have a secret hatred for German mechanics. That would explain a lot.

“Ohh, that’s nice. Not sure if I split my hand open or if it’s oil. Don’t really care.”

Yeah except for on my 07 V6 Accord where you have to remove the front PS tire to remove the oil filter...

I disagree about Honda making it easy (unless that’s a more recent thing). The oil filter on the civic is on the back of the block, about half way up. Oil always runs down the engine mount, and onto the exhaust.

WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT?!

Because I bet not a single one of those engineers were ever forced to change the oil. If they had to, I bet it would have been redesigned in a very short period of time.
