So I did a basic estimate of how much the parts would be for my dream El Camino

And it’s not quite as expensive as I thought it would be, still pretty expensive though.

At least it seems obtainable, at some point.

Probably throw another couple thousand in there for unexpected expenses and tools that you will need. The El Camino pictured above looks sweet though! Is that the look you want?

Not necessarily, I’d take either a 2nd or 3rd gen. I have low expectations for aesthetics because I don’t have the interest, skill, or money to make it look nice lol.

$1500 is for a stock LS1 T56, clutch, flywheel, hydraulics, and bellhousing? Gonna need a driveshaft too.

And you’ll want to upgrade the stock front suspension way before going rack and pinion. And the rear control arms- they can be deflected by hand if you are strong enough.

Forgot about all the clutch stuff and driveshaft. This was just a rough estimate.

How do you feel about 5th gen El Caminos? I love the earlier models, too, but I’ve found parts for my 5th gen to be relatively inexpensive. (And surviving original cars are easier to find/buy.) Since they were based on the A/G body of the late 70's and 80's, there were a ton of other cars out there with interchangeable parts. With that said....gotta love the looks of the earlier models. :)

I have a 5th gen as well and as stated, parts are cheap and readily available.

I don’t know much about the G-body, but the looks just kill it for me. I wouldn’t mind owning one, but if I’m gonna dump a lot of money into one, it’ll be a 2nd or 3rd gen.
