Why do companies keep trying to make convertible crossovers a thing?

Looks like a bathtub with a windshield and wheels.
I’d need to have bubble machines inside if I had one of these to complete the effect.

Why do companies keep trying to make convertible crossovers a thing?
I would assume it’s because the demographic that wants to buy a convertible doesn’t give two shits about trunk space, it’s easier to make “big” if it’s a “truck” under fuel economy rules, and by making it tall with big wheels it can pick up some periphery demographics.
Also, a crossover with a quasi-frame-like underpinnings is easy to make stiff enough.
In short, I suspect they’re hunting a customer cohort that they know damn well exists, but has elusive preferences. Anybody who bought the 2000s Sebring verts, anybody who bought leBarons in the 90s, people who bought Rabbit cabrios in the ‘80s, people who bought the Solara. They’re out there, but who the fuck knows what they actually want?

None of those cars are in the same price bracket as this thing though, but then again money /= taste.

Or better yet just make the interior water tight and put in some water jets, then you could have a hot tub on wheels.

My mom used to always talk about how some company needed to take a luxury SUV and turn it into a convertible that still had a hatchback type opening and good cargo capacity, because that would be the best car ever, and would make them all kinds of money. Because that was the kind of car she wanted.
I was either in high school or college at the time and I tried to explain to her that there’s no good way to make a convertible that retained the hatchback opening, but that’s what she wanted.
As we’ve seen with the Murano CrossCabriolet and the Evoque convertible, they’re not hatchbacks. They’re more like tall notchback coupes. But I bet she still maybe wants a Murano CrossCabriolet though.

Like I said in my earlier thing, though - it’s an older and aging cohort that buys new cars these days, and they’re presumably gambling on repeat convertible customers who are now in the Range Rover target demo. The urban money set and upwardly mobile 40-60 year old housewife set, among others.

back when I had a suburban, sometimes I wished it was a convertible. Warm summer evening. Put the top down. Cruise home slowly on congested rush hour highway
EDIT:
IT IS A THING!!!
I kind of hate it now tho. I think it needs a roof
EDIT 2: it needs less roof actually

I like it.
I probably wouldn’t own the cabriolet over the coupe though.

No amount of badgery will make that thing a Range Rover.

Convertible or not this detail alone would drive me mad. See that black “vent” on the hood? Notice how it continues onto the door? Now take a look; not only is there the part where the top portion is at separate levels, but the bottom doesn’t even line up!

It might look somewhat better if it was lowered slightly, but that beltline is too high, looks like a bathtub like someone else accurately stated. The regular Evoque is a good looking car though.

2 door SUVs have always been a failure? In the US maybe. OK, today 2 doors get rarer, but in the past they sold well
