Headed to Denver this Sunday through Wednesday to see Sturgill Simpson at Red Rocks and some general vacationing. What should I see while I’m there?

The current plan is to get into Denver around noon on Sunday. Check into the hotel and just check out downtown. Monday will be more of the same, maybe head out to Red Rocks during the day to check out that area, then back that night for the show.

I rented a Mustang “or similar” from Budget (I know there are horror stories for this, so we’ll see how it goes) so Tuesday we might head out to Mount Evans and do some general mountain driving.

What say you Oppo? What should I see while I’m in Denver?

P.S. Bonus points if you can name the song/artist I stole the title from. No cheating!

Guenella pass and Mt. Evans would be worth a drive right now.

Also go to Hogshead brewery and get a cask conditioned ale. Best ever.

I’m stoked to see his stripped down four piece band and watching him shed some wicked solos.

I went to a show at Red Rocks once. We visited the Celestial Seasonings Tea Factory the morning of the show.

It was AWESOME

But I’m a nerd and I really like tea.

We’re in for some rain this weekend, which means potentially snow at high elevations. If you can get into the mountains, there’s some great mountain towns and sights (Idaho Springs has some good food.) As Nibbles mentioned, there’s more breweries than you’d know what to do with. Lots of good food and brews in the Highlands and around downtown. Lots and lots of great short hikes (2-4hrs) around the area too. I could probably meet up Mon/Tues evening if you’re interested.

Loveland pass definitely, up to Frisco and stop at backcountry brewery. Probably see some test mules up there too.

For the brewery I recommend New Belgium. Also Celestial Seasonings tour is good if beer isn’t your thing or you just wanna see huge amounts of tea.

The Forney Museum of Transportation is worth checking out, and it is near downtown. In addition to the permanent exhibits, they had a Bentley/Rolls Royce exhibit up when I was up there a couple of months ago. The whole city park/zoo/natural science museum complex is done well, too. Denver also has a fantastic botanical garden, if you’re into walking around and looking at plants. The US mint is neat to see, but I think that runs on an appointment basis these days. The Federal Reserve also has a tour/museum that I remember being free, and you’ll leave with a free bag of money (of the shredded variety). If you want more action, there is Elitch Gardens that has some big-boy rollercoasters in the theme park.

There are also more breweries than you’ll ever be able to see, but Avery brewing is probably one of the best if you make your way up the road to Boulder.
