The school system in our entire geographical area has been closed since last Thursday because of threats against students and teachers lives via email and text messages. In this day and age we cannot brush these threats aside. School shootings and targeted violence against students and teachers is a reality. Here is the latest message afrom the school:
The kids are finally going back to school tomorrow. I am relieved that there never was a real threat but very pissed that a couple of emails closed school for three days.

Thanks! This has been a huge deal for us, I amazed it hasn’t made national news.

Wow. The local schools have enacted measures to seal the campuses. On the older ones, they put up fences and gates. The newer ones use the buildings as an outer wall and keep a large courtyard for a play area. Access is restricted and many schools have an airlock style entrance which can trap a potential shooter if they try to come in the front.
Of course, all a shooter would need is the will to drive through a fence or a wall and their security is ruined.

I hope I never have to deal with that shit. I’d probably be leading my own person man hunt.

The illusion of safety is just that, an illusion.

but on the flip side , if the messages were ignored and someone was shot dead, just imagine the ensuing shitshow and lawsuits.

I think the authorities handled it appropriately. The safety of the child and educators comes first.

I don’t really get much news exposure. No cable and getting a paper is very uncommon.
