my wife wants to do a 5 mile race thanksgiving morning.

Kinja'd!!!

At least I’ve been on the mountain bike a couple times a week, but that is very different from running. oday my wife did 5 miles in 40 minutes. I did 2 in 18 minutes. I’m way more into biking and have been timing a 5 miles offroad loop. I got it down to 5 miles in 24:35.

I play tennis twice a week and then I can’t breath.

I really want to drive in the 2CV race at Spa at some point in my life.

If you can do it on a moped, I say go ahead.

Stick with biking. Running is way over rated.

I’ll do both, one run a week and one ride. Would much rather ride but gutta get back up to speed for the race

It’s 24 hours of heavily modified 2CVs racing around Spa. Sounds like a ton of fun to me.

Lol I thought you meant a stock one. That’s different

There is a class for stock cars but the real fun is in the slightly faster stuff.

I run 2-3 miles on Monday and Wednesday and ride a mixed road-trail course that’s a little over 7 miles on Tuesday and Friday. A couple Sundays a month I mix in a 10-20 mile off-road ride. It works different muscles, and most days I’m up for it. I’ve been doing this since the beginning of the year when I decided to get back into running basically to enter a race where they were giving away pie at the end. Running still feels slow and boring compared to the bike. The positives are that it is a lot easier to get ready for (just change clothes and go, no messing around with helmets/gloves/tire pressure/brakes/etc) and that I can have my music up pretty loud. So I try to just focus on those positives. If you’re already running 2 miles now and not giving up the biking you should be fine for the Turkey Trot. Just make sure you rest for a few days before and stretch after. Does your wife want you to run with her during the race or is she OK going ahead of you? My wife is a marathoner (she did a 50k yesterday actually) and when we do 5k’s together I just send her ahead after the first mile or so and finish a few minutes after she does. I can keep up with her for 4 miles or so, but the last time I tried that in July she went out for another 4 miles afterward and I was dead for like 2 days.

I wish I could get out that much. With 3 kids I’ll probably be able to get out 2-3 times a week all together. We have done a bunch of 5k’s but its probably been a couple years. I’m was usually ahead of her, but it will be interesting to see where we are this time. I should be able to get my distance up and time down quite a bit by then. I think my best 5k was about 21 minutes and she was like 30 seconds behind me. The turkey trot is 5 miles so that is an another difficulty factor
