As some of you know, I purchased a CX-3. It’s a looker.
After driving it around for a while and detailing the shit out of it yesterday for about 6-7 hours I have some observations.
Like:
1) Rain sensing wipers. - I will never think about wipers again
2) Ride height - Easy loading/ingress/egress
3) Auto dimming mirror - suck it bro dozers with aftermarket lights
4) Automatic highbeams - I can see and so can oncoming traffic!
5) Automatic Transmission - I still have a manual, but... for a DD in heavy traffic? Auto all the way. First time I’ve owned an automatic in 6 years.
Dislike:
1) The fact I bought a crossover
2) Window covers
3) Plastic Cladding
4) It’s not very unique.

Is that Soul Red? Anytime I see a Soul Red Mazda I end up staring longer than I should.

It is! Everyone always comments on the colour

Nice looking rav4.

Congrats. People hate on crossovers and other tall vehicles, but it really is very user friendly. Also, there’s a time and a place for a manual transmission, and a heavy traffic commute is not one of those times. I’m glad that I’ve reached a point in my life where I can accept that “manual all the things” is not the best answer. I’m grateful that I have access to automatic and manual cars depending on my needs.
Can you adjust the speed of the rain sensing wipers? I can’t stand when my wipers run too fast in only mildly wet conditions (probably from years of driving shitty cars with terribly loud wipers), so it would bug the crap out of me if I couldn’t disable the rain sensing or slow it way down.

No, I can’t adjust the speed. It only wipes when there is rain, then stops.
Self adjusting

I’m not sure how I feel about that. I’m sure it’s a nice feature to have, but it would take a lot of getting used to.

Dude. Not cool. Lol

The stereo’s pretty good too, eh?

You can adjust the sensitivity (aka speed) of them by rotating the the stalk. Source: have 2 late model Mazdas with auto wipers.

So, so good. Especially coming from a Fiesta... I hear things in songs I have never heard before.

Thanks, I’ll look into it. It’s really my first full day with it

Is the rear seat as tight as I remember it being? I’d love one of these as my next daily, but I don’t think my teenage kids could fit in the back seats. My 14 year old son is 6'1" already, so I’m thinking something a bit bigger, like a Suburban. /S

The Mrs is starting to think about a new car and this has been on my list. Don’t get too beaten down with all the crossover hate, they’re nice functional vehicles and you’ve got a good looking one. I test drove a CRV a while back when looking for a new car and found myself liking it a lot more than I thought I would.
I think she’d like the size of the CX5 better - I do really love the way new Mazdas look though...

It’s not bad at all. Keep in mind my other car and up and until now daily driver is a Fiesta ST... So I may be not a good judge of seat size

Does it really drive as great as the reviews say? I hate to admit it, but I love the look of small crossovers like the CX-3, so if it drives well, it’d be the whole package.

You can also make the wipers intermittent if you want through the cars menu in the infotainment screen. Congrats on the purchase by the way.

When these first came out, I test-drove a blue one, much like this:
Best looking hatchback SUV *cringes* crossover ever, in my opinion, and the only issue was the unresponsive paddle shifters. If the shift times were quicker I might have given it further consideration. (Honda Fit CVT I used to drive had MUCH faster paddleshift times. And the gears in that were fake.)
Mazda just needs to lower it and drop the 2.5T from the CX-9 in there. I don’t need a MazdaSpeed3, I need a CX-3 Turbo to show all the BMW X3s what the Ultimate Driving Machine really looks like...

Thanks!

It drives really well. It will do surprisingly well in the corners.

I don’t find the paddles too slow, but yes they could be quicker.
The 2.5, even naturally aspirated would be great.

Beautiful car! I had a soul red 3 hatch and kinda want a cx-3 to replace my NC, I really hate the armrest though that was my only real complaint. It definitely sacrifices space for style though and being a big guy I may end up with a turbo soul instead.

I’m 6.1 and have no issue!

I know I COULD fit, I used to have a 2 also, but after my Miata I really want something with more headroom. Still a year or two aways anyways, but right now my short list is cx3, si coupe or the soul.

Nice!
The wipers.......I find them unreliable in sprinkling rain. Here in dry CA it wipes when you don’t want them to, smearing dirt and dust all over the windscreen when it’s only a drop or two of rain.
You live in a wetter climate so probably not a big problem for you.
Enjoy the new car! Have any kids to test the rear seats with?
![]() 09/21/2017 at 11:18 |

No kids! So they are essentially vestigial rear seats, but still nice to have the space!

Hey man! Seeing as we have the same car (and got it for mostly the same reasons now that I’ve read your post), gotta ask:
Have you found that it’s completely different in sport mode with TCS off? I am genuinely impressed with it sometimes.

It’s one of the better automatics I’ve driven, I find it accelerates pretty quickly for a vehicle with only a 2.0L!
