That Cressida manual swap looks like a pipe dream. Afte perusing Cressida forums, it appears that most of the bits and bobs like the clutch pedal can be sourced from the very healthy Supra restoratio community, but I am somewhat intimidated after delving into the subject.
Apparently, this type of swap has been done, but usually with a Supra transmission, which requires the grafting of the Supra drive train. The transmission I found is actually from a Cressida, which should eliminate the problem. But as I learn more about these swaps, I worry that cost may become prohibitive.
But man, with the 5MGE as a base, I wanted to build my wife a sleeper with all the Supra experts (Turbo!). She is a kindergarten Special Ed teacher, and is as nice as that makes her sound.
I wanted her to be able to haul around in her Cressida, giggling her head off at driving the coolest car in the teacher parking lot. We will see where this ends up.

To get reliable power out of the 5M, budget wise, you might as well swap in at least a 1JZ. The manual swap is probably fairly documented and straight forward though.

I’ve had my soul crushed by cressidas since 2001. I’ve had five 1jz’s and three 2jz’s and enough m-motor experience to last me until never, I will never touch another m motor. No thanks.
Best solution is just put in a 2jz-ge manual. Basically rear end will never just take power in your car. anything turbo will require mostly everything once it actually could be daily driven. Most 1jz and 2jz turbo engines will always need more spent on them including fixing leaking turbo seals (replacing the turbo/s), replacing coils, crank pulley and ps pump minimum. before they ever grant reliable power that will cause R or W trans weak points to blow.
It gets wildly out of control fast. I’d recommend an old jzs147 gs300 or is300/gs300(jzs160) drivetrain swap first, manual swap that. Car would be plenty fun non-turbo and not just hang out in the garage for months at a time crushing you. All cressidas that are fast are like 20% cressida when done. My last one only had it’s original rear window glass and front subframe. Every other thing was replaced or upgraded to make it a reliable pro-touring style daily.
Or just jump into the w box swap and start learning.

I manual swapped my 86 MX72 Cressida wagon, with no experience doing so beforehand. It makes the car so much better I cannot adequately describe it. What do you need to know? It’s pretty straightforward, really.
