Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev. Even if you’re not a fan of ballet, this is a fantastic score. Prokofiev is seriously underrated in popular classical music circles.

I think even I can handle Act 1 and 2. PS. Did a tour of Edwards/Getzen last month. Got a new Edwards trombone. Did you know trombones are a lot cheaper than race cars?

Can’t believe you’re posting from the pit. :)

I’m playing Peter and the wolf for school children in a few weeks.

Just found out I’m playing first violin on it too, glad it’s not Romeo. Those Russians sure write some virtuoso 1st violin parts.

Cool! My son was going to do trumpet but then he found an old clarinet and decided to change. The clarinet was from my stepfather who bought it in 1970!

Well, we hadn’t started yet.

Euphoniums, on the other hand....

If you bought a new horn, then obviously you play. Where?

(Perhaps you’ve told me, but I’ve slept since then.)

The fiddle parts are brutal. Where do you play?

My oldest has been playing trumpet for three years and he’s playing my old trumpet I got in 76. My younger boys are doing clarinet and euphonium.

That’s not nearly as interesting.

A little semi-pro chamber orchestra north of Chicago.

Recently renamed Lake County Symphony Orchestra.

Do you play for a living or for fun?

I’ve never played a piece by Prokofiev that I didn’t like. We’re doing his 5th symphony later this season.

Having a phone out during the performance is grounds for termination.

I could play March Op.99 on every Wind Symphony concert for the rest of my life and never get tired of it. Same could be said of any arrangement of the Lt. Kije Suite. (There’s some semi-jazzy arrangement of the Troika called Midnight Sleighride that we do every other Christmas that makes me wish I’d chosen trombone in 7th grade instead of clarinet.)

Fun. I played as a kid but then it wasn’t out of the case from about 2000-2011 when I had opportunity to get back to playing. I also play in the Waukegan Symphony.
