I dunno. That’s pretty close, being a great project, but no Jalop would ever pay that much for that. I think it’s gonna have to go to the judges.

It’s only gotten more Jalop/car-spergish with time. Back then - rarified/highly specialized knowledge. Nowadays?

Hahaha! Forgot about that one. Solid entry.

I think Oppo is still one of the few communities to which a well-coiffed gal with encyclopedic car knowledge would not be a surprise. Stereotypes die hard.
My wife’s favorite part is when the jury all nods their heads.

This movie made young me fall very much in love with Marisa Tomei

In spite of the hair, too. She deserved that Oscar.

I’d say that hair adds to it for me.

And, I’ll just leave it at that.

Even the song playing in the background is Jalop.
Or the mall chase scene. “The new Oldsmobiles are in early this year.”

Hey, great minds. (Though I didn’t remember it until I saw Dan Aykroyd in the Ghostbusters scene).

Certainly!
I have always liked how he mentions it is not just police-spec, but a car from the pre-cat era. That says it all, of course.
I did not remember the bit about the Olds though!

“Fix the cigarette lighter.”
So much win in that movie.

I never noticed the little “Holy crap, we just did that” smiles they give each other at the end of that clip. Plus the showoff in response to criticism about the car? Definitely a jalop in that scene. I really need to watch it again, I wonder what else I missed?

I always found it funny that he wanted the cigarette lighter fixed after he threw it out the window.

There is a little, very moving film with Stockard Channing, Sweet Revenge, about a young car thief (Channing) whose aim in life is to own a 246 Dino some day.
It is not exactly an uplifting film, but as a tale of youthful obsession about car ownership I’d consider it to be a worthy candidate.

Only thing that could have made it better would be if he said “They had to remove the cop supercharger, it’s illegal for them to sell it installed.”

Although, Stockard Channing has never really sparked my plugs, the car makes it a solid entry.

Of course but the jump is not really the relevant part... it’s the explanation by Elwood (Aykroyd).

Belushi never let details like that, or like not being a good singer, get in the way of a performance.

I also remember a wonderful moment in
Castle Keep,
a peculiar 1969 film set in WW2, where a GI tries to “kill” a VW Beetle staff car by driving it into a small lake (actually a big pond).
Of course the damn thing floats, which finally convinces the would-be car murderer that that car is indeed something magic and evil.

Happens just before the clip when he’s complaining about being picked up from jail in a cop car, or questioning where the caddy went.
