Piglet was in need of a wash, a little bit of traffic film along the lower edges and brake dust on the front wheels really. That was it.

But was a perfect time to try out my new pressure washer I got the other day.

Yay for new toys.

40 minutes to do both at the same time.

Touchless Svending. Nice! But, how many times can you wash a car before you flay the clear coat off?

Car washing does nothing to the clearcote other than inflict swirls and micromarring. Safe car washing doesn’t even do that.

Average paint thickness in around 120-140 microns these days. Of which under half is clearcote so 50-60 microns.

Heavy polishing will take off 1-5 microns and wet sanding will take off about 8 microns. So you can wet sand, compound and polish a car about three times before it’s not worth the risk.

Saying that. Piglet has never been polished at all except for minor scuffs and light scratches.

I was joking around, but that’s quite interesting.

I washed mine yesterday after being shot with bird crap, only to get shot with more bird crap.

Didn’t want to sign out the car wash again , so I just used spray detailer and all-purpose cleaner to get it off the top and paint.

Good thing I sealed and waxed... everything comes right off.

Sorry. My bad. I’ve heard millions of times people walking past say, ‘you’ll wash the paint off that you know’, ‘you’ll damage the paint washing it so often’, etc... it’s become a knee jerk reaction to say, ‘well actually....’.

It’s as infuriating as when people say, ‘are you polishing the car again?’, what part of a wash mitt and two buckets are you associating with polishing?

Lol.

It’s always good to hear other people taking care of their cars.

It’s not fair, those ruddy birds bomb everything.

They land on mine and I think, yay, something to clean, then a rain shower comes and literally in 95% of the time removes all trace, the other times it leaves a dust outline. :(

Oh, I understand. Those people are just jealous. They want their cars Svended, too.

Don’t mind the cleaning part too much, it’s the “getting droppings and baking the etch into the paint under the sun for a whole day” part that annoys me more.

An indoor cleaning area would be fantastic for us, you because it’s out the sun, me because it’s out the rain.

No I mean after I get dropped on, it’s still baking at the train station, then I notice it.

But yes, underground is great. Minus the fact I can’t use any power tools, we aren’t allowed detailing in the wash bay, and there’s no outlet near my parking spot.
