“Burgess grabbed a neighbor’s ladder and climbed to the top of his single story home. He lectured the suspect before grabbing him. The two tussled for a bit before Burgess pushed the burglary suspect off the roof.”
Oh yeah, there’s video. Not any more. It looks like they pulled it.

Fixing stuff just like back in the day, where men where men, and disagreements were settled the hard way.

...and because nothing is logical, Gramps will probably get dinged for assault.
At least that’s likely what would happen here. 404 Logic Not Found

While he probably shouldn’t have done that, it sounds like they need a better crisis negotiator.

The lecture part is my favorite. I just picture the old man wagging his finger, “If you were my grandson I would beat your living daylights out. How could you rob....”etc.

Gramps will probably not face an assault charge but I guarantee that Mr. Burglar is going to sue him.

The fact that there is actually a precedent on this is disturbing to me. I just don’t understand.

People (specifically the scummy kind of lawyers) love to sue over everything.

Yeah, I get that. Scum gonna scum. But I don’t understand how somebody WON in the first place.
“So what happened?”
“He deliberately pushed me off the roof”
“Why were you on the roof?”
“Trying to break in”
“Well, I’ve heard enough, clearly the guy who pushed you needs to give you money”
It’s like the burglar is guaranteed money. He could break in, take whatever he can find (which may or may not be worth the effort), and risk getting caught... or he can sue the guy he tried to rob because he got hurt due to the fact that the guy he tried to rob didn’t actually want to lose his stuff? DO THEY NOT REALIZE THEY’RE LITERALLY PLAYING INTO THEIR HANDS?
It’s a load of bullshit.

I don’t think anyone other than the lawyers have ever won a case like this. I’m pretty sure most of them get thrown out of court.

I thought they had, but you probably know more than me. I hope you’re right. The fact that these cases seem to happen with regularity make me want to throw up.
Fucking. Bullshit.
