Beautiful Red Type R
Yeah, I said it, someone had to. I’m sick of everyone on Oppo and Jalopnik yelling about how the new Type R is a mess of plastic non-working vents. So what if it has non working vents. What agressive car under $50k doesn’t? The New Type R isn’t the same Type R as the one of yonder:
And no one complained in Europe about the last gen Type R:
So come on brothers, say it, say that you love the new Type R!

I wouldn’t buy it, but I certainly love the fact that it exists. Fast FWD isn’t bad

I have nothing against the type R. Rather I have something against Honda. I feel as if they betrayed the enthusiasts by cutting all their sports cars. The type R is cool, but not enough of an apology.
See: Kia and the stinger gt.

Yeah it’s a cool car, finally we get the CTR over here, but it still seems too little too late. Honda in general losing it, and like you said. not the same Type R as yonder.

If you’re going to talk about the CTR of yonder, At least reference the good one
As for the new one, I stand by the general concensous that the fake aggression in the body work undermines the car. Plenty of cars don’t do that.

I think it’s just too much. It’s striking, but not beautiful. Now I am in no way saying that every car has to be beautiful, but this is a little too far the other way. I have the same problem with most new cars.

Type R as the one of yonder:
meh, the EP3 was pretty average too. Macpherson struts were sad.
K was a good engine, and the rear seat space was nice, and using a cable shifter to move the knob to the dash was a neat touch. but it was no performer. An excellent civic, a not very good R.
And no one complained in Europe about the last gen Type R:
ahh, yeah they/we did! It too is gangly and awkward and large and impractical. It wasnt even a good civic, and certainly not a good R.
As other have said, CTRs end at the EK9. Everything else is just a fancy civic.

It’s a cool car, and I’m glad it exists, I just think I’d like it a lot more if the styling was turned down about 50%. And sure, plenty of new cars have fake vents, but the fact that they all have the same poor design doesn’t make it a better design.

I like it a lot too. And Its a very strong contender against the STi and the Focus RS in its own right, I would love to own one.
I honestly think the hate is just thinly, or not at all, veiled elitism.

It’s the love child of an Aventador and a GTI. If you like the outrageous Lambo-ness, you love it. If you want plaid seats and 3 (not 50) shades of gray, you hate it.

Nope. Still one of the ugliest cars on sale today. Doesn’t matter how it performs if you have to look at it when you walk up to it every time.
I remember when this would have been awesome 15 years ago when fast and furious styling was all the rage.

If people cared about looks over performance, the Veyron would have stopped selling years ago

I like it and I would rather have one over a Focus RS.

Veyrons are more boring than ugly. The people who buy veyrons buy them to show they can and probably as an investment.

I haven’t watched this yet, but I swear to god if this is just Jeremy Clarkson rambling on about on board computers i‘m going to toss my phone across my room

Not that I don’t love watching the man, but he does this to every car that isn’t the Alfa Romeo 8C

I don’t think he mentions computers at any point
