I should hate them, but I don’t. Every car on my list of “next family car” is are just lifted hatches and wagons. Here they are in order of “want”
I would consider one of these if we have to replace the Fit within the new two years, my goal is for the next cat to be less than 4 years old. A ZDX would be cooler tho. I know I should hate them, I mean they are like Aztek ugly, but I like em.
It almost looks like a coupe at this angle. Oh my god it’s a giant Juke.
Then of coarse there’s this one. It’s bigger than we need, and it’ll probabaly out of our price range, but I like it.
And an open spot for when Kia rolls out something for the segment, hopefully a tall, Stinger sportback.

No CX-3?

It’s not your fault. It’s automotive Stockholm Syndrome from the CUV culture holding us hostage all these years.
That Buick wagon is nice though.

Black plastic wheel trim for all!

I drive lifted turbo charged Versa. I chose it over a Veloster Turbo solely that it handled as good, & had ground clearance for winter & soft-roading.

That’s the part I hate most of all.

I’ve always had a weird desire for a lifted Ford Falcon wagon...

Do they have milk clearance?

Probably not.

The nearest Mazda dealership is 4 hours away. No point in having a nice new car with nowwhere to get the warranty work done.

I’m going all FP here, but I’m hoping these lose a lot of value after 3 years so I can swoop in.

Rob a bank and buy a Volvo wagon

You and me both. I’d go into debt for a special ordered wagon (no cladding) with the manual OR auto and that scares me

Boooooo there’ll be no used cars if no one buys them new.
Hopefully I’ll just be able to make enough money to afford one. Then keep it for ten years.

It was a great car.

I was pretty damn close to buying a new iM... I think I would have done it had they also brought over the Auris wagon, instead of just the hatchback. But buying a 15 year old car was a huge step for me!

Everything in increments. One day your vehicle will have a factory warranty.

The answer? Probably Subaru, or Kia.

What about a used VW Tiguan? This last generation before the 3 seaters will be at a decent price by then. I’d actually like to get my wife to trade her ‘11 Tiguan for a ‘15 or ‘16 soon

My ‘96 Civic still had a factory warranty when I owned it, because low miles.

I think if it warranted, I could go for something like this.
I keep looking at the Skoda Octavia Scout.
I’d be okay with a MB Gla Class. One of very few MBs I like.

My wife has an outback which is amazing for camping and going on logging roads. Thinking about having some Bilstein rally dampers made for it when the time comes. Revalved of course.

I am strangely attracted to the Acura in black. Someone near me has the only one of those I see, in pearl white. I would like to try one out.

As I was reading that “lost by GPS” post I kept thinking: “shit, I’ve done worse than that in my Subaru...shit, I don’t own that car anymore”.
Lifted AWD FTW.

You got a star for the Scout and think yourself lucky I couldn’t take it back for the Mercedes Galah.

The problem I have with lifted hatchbacks is that they’d be better as lifted wagons.
The problem with lifted wagons is that they’d be better as regular wagons, because realistically, are you going to take a jacked up Jetta offroading?

I might not take it off-roading, but I’ve gone down plenty of roads that made the Fit nervous, or straight up had to turn around

Fair enough. I figure if I was going to somewhat regularly off road, I’d get something better suited to it, like a pickup or real SUV, but I can see how a lifted wagon has some benefits. I just think that the 95% of the time, the average person doesn’t need the clearance and would be better served by a standard wagon, but no doubt that varies.
