So is redlining every shift.

140 and redlined is OK, as long as you close your eyes until then.

...right?

I rented a uhaul when I moved back to GA from TX. They had placed a “speed kills” sticker right at 70 mph on the speedometer. Luckily we had my radar detector which tells you your GPS speed, so we mounted that right in front of the driver and used that as our speedometer.

Reminds me of a fellow on one of the Mustang forums a couple years ago, who was looking for sneaky ways to temporarily neuter the car for his son to drive. I don’t think we ever heard back from him on what he ended up doing, but it was fun to think about.

Yeah, I’ve seen a few of those. Some people say to turn the rev limiter down but that’s a very bad idea. If it’s a newer car you can probably reprogram the speed limiter though.

That is an XV10 Toyota Camry with a manual transmission. Could be fun.

A friend of mine got a ‘69 or ‘70 Charger when he was in his teens. They worked together to bring it back to driving condition in time for him to get his license. Even though it had a 440, it never really had the get-up-and-go that he expected.

Years later, he decided to have it fully restored. The mechanic doing the work told him that he finally got it running right. The problem? They used the wrong gasket during their rebuild and it kept the secondary butterflies from opening.

His dad admitted that he accidentally bought the wrong gasket but decided to use it anyway once he discovered that it blocked the secondaries.

Smart dad.

I would be lugging the motor in my Miata if I shifted it below 2k

The first car I ever drove was an 82 Rabbit four speed. It had what VW called an “E Light” that was meant to cue you when to upshift for maximum fuel economy. You’d be lucky to get to 2k before it told you to upshift. Fortunately, the system was smart enough to sense when you were accelerating “aggressively” and the light wouldn’t come on.

80 is pretty generous.

If there’s two words related to driving that when combined piss me right the fuck off, it’s those. Fucking bullshit.

I mean, I’m back to go 85 regularly. So you’re not wrong.

I’ve never gotten pulled over for doing less and back when I had a different commute, got 2 tickets, weeks apart for doing 85.

Really low odds a cop in MI will pull you over for doing 80 on the highway. They’re cool as long as you aren’t weaving through traffic like a maniac.

I’ve been driving for 35 years and never gotten a (speeding) ticket. Then again, I rarely speed. I guess I’m just getting old.

Except when your car has Canadian plates, then to them it’s cha-ching.
