It’s a Pioneer DEH-X6800BT, which was brand new last year and now all of a sudden discontinued. I can connect my Droid Moto Z to just about any device.... except for this god damn radio. Yes, Discovery Mode is on in the phone. If I hit the phone button, it says “READY” and then changes to “ERROR-10".
I haven’t gotten a single answer that’s worked, and now the USB I was using is coming up with ERROR-19!

Error 10 is a somewhat common issue with bad bluetooth chips in the Pioneer units. It appears that they used a bad batch of chips a year or so ago which causes most of the issues. The internet had several mentions of a bad batch when I bought this unit for my car ~15 months ago.

I have the 6900BT and have problems. I don’t have the bluetooth problems like that, mine just fails to connect every now and then. I usually just pop the faceplate on and off, and it works. I connect an Android and Iphone to it regularly though. It does act wacky with the ARC app connected over USB, it will change settings like the source menu. I probably won’t buy another Pioneer after only buying Pioneer for twenty years. I will concede that most aftermarket stereos are pieces of shit though.

I might get a new one. Or I’ll switch to Kenwood. Dad’s always had good experiences with them.

Now you have me thinking of making another carputer. I had one in 99 that only played MP3's and it was a full size PC. The sound was piped through my stereo and it had a corded remote and a blue LCD track display. I revamped in 2008 and built a mini computer with a touchscreen in my WRX. With the Raspberry Pi I could make something quite small and use whatever display I wanted. That may be what I replace this shitty Pioneer. Could be a fun project. I could probably get it done for under $150. It might be crap, but at least it’s my crap.
I ordered a new Pi in the middle of writing this post.
