HNNNGGGGG!
My girlfriend loves these. But I assume they are hugely impractical as a daily driver? Rust prone and such? I live in Michigan. Because I think I could totally convince her to daily one. And I bet you guys would totally tell me to do it. But still, probably not a good idea eh?

I just shipped my ‘91 off to Colorado Speed Company for some engine work, body work, and new paint. Can’t wait!
Took five people five hours to strip the vinyl and trim off. Phew!

Jake bought one,
My friend had an SJ in highschool. It was awesome except the floors were rusted out in the back so every time we hit a dirt road the inside would fill with dust. Otherwise it was way better than his Cherokee.

I thought about dailying one. Factors that stopped me from doing so were atrocious MPG, lack of ABS/Airbags, and the cots of finding one in decent shape.

Yeah I guess lack of MPG’s and safety features are quite a downer. I’ll need to be on the lookout for a diesel swapped example! If someone can get me a pristine example with an EcoDiesel drivetrain (I assume from a heritage standpoint this is the most appropriate, although I’d have no qualms putting in a baby powerstroke) that would be wonderful.... for like $10k? Hah!

I’m still mad about the one that got away. 1 owner, immaculate, $900. Brown, with just the wood vinyl strip along the beltline. This was 10 years ago. I was shopping for beater winter vehicles before I put snows on the RX8 I owned at the time.
I went, drove it, had my checkbook...the guy wouldn’t even hold it. Cash only. I offered to write him a check, go to the bank to get cash, and return with cash. He wouldn’t do it, I went and got cash, returned 15 minutes later, and he had already sold it to the next guy that showed up.

This was my car for a spell of time. I-6 engine, afterthought A/C and a manual transmission.
The Wagoneers like the one that led your post, I’ve always thought were very handsome cars.

Yes, it was quite a specimen. And a constant worry. I don’t miss it.

Was it the individual vehicle pictured? It looks to be in terrific shape.

Yes, that was my car. It’s a beauty, but I do not miss it. For one thing, it was a two-door. For another, low power and trucky, notchy shifting. And base model, so noisy and solid axles, so swaying shoe box feel on the road.
