I’m thinking I might have a bearing that needs replacement. when I let off the gas, i get this sound from the front passenger wheel. When i press on the gas or the brake the sound stops. Does this sound like a bearing going bad to you guys? Sound in not too loud, i have to turn off the stereo to hear it.

or could it be the CV or the brakes? what does oppo think?

UPDATE

Noise was from the front Transfer Case of my 2014 Pathfinder. Turns out there was a tiny leak in the transfer case oil plug. Looks like they forgot to tighten it when they replaced my Transmission this Spring. Looks like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is oppo’s master technician

what exactly do you hear? Just saying “I hear this sound” doesn’t tell us much.

When wheel bearings are on their way out, you typically hear a humming or “moaning” sound which varies with road speed, and often gets louder when you go around a corner when the bad bearing is the outside wheel (you’re transferring more weight and lateral load on the bearing, so it gets noisier.)

What car? I’d lean towards CV due to the no sound under load condition. Wheel bearings don’t really car that much, they’ll just hum all god damned day, the little bastards.

2014 pathfinder

CVT was just replaced less than 6 months ago.

CVT? Or CV? Because if you have a CVT equipped Nissan, it’s humming to let you know you did wrong.

4WD?

I’m also leaning toward CV joint on axle.

yeah it’s 4wd, but no humming before. If it stops raining i’m gonna take a look under to see if the CV boots are ripped.

The tranny (CVT) was replaced in april

Ah, ok. My humming comment was a jab, not serious.

I think CV joint. Or they installed the axle wrong when they replaced the trans.

Or aliens.

Wheel bearings are usually constant drone - and get louder when you turn. Sound related to gas/load on/off more likely related to drivetrain.

i knew it was a jab, that’s why you got a star.

drivetrain is still under warranty so I’m ok with that.

think i’m gonna get them take a road test very soon.

Step 1: Year make model and mileage

Step 2: What kind of sound? Clunk screech whine whir rumble groan ping....

I just dealt with a wheel bearing issue. It sounded like the kind of hum you get when driving over grooved pavement, and it increased in pitch with speed. What you report doesn’t sound like that. Definitely have them drive with you.

2014 pathfinder with 60000 kms (Canada)

more of a whine when no gas or brake.

thats why i’m thinking CV or brakes. but brakes would make noise when on gas.

So thinking mostly the CV
