My house, now with more wood. 3/4" x 3.25" thick hickory standard tongue and grove. Very nice looking, I am so pleased with the outcome. Now I can get back to installing new shocks on the Mazda.

Very nice! I’m planning to do most of my house in hardwood this winter, haven’t picked out what kind yet, though. I briefly looked and really liked the brazilian cherry they had... until I saw the price.

Shouldn’t you take those orange socks to the dirty clothes pile/basket?

I’m not a dark color person but there are some stained maple patterns that would look similar to exotic dark woods. This is Bruce hardwood from home depot and was able to get it for $3.50/sf. $4-$6/sf is typical.

The laundry fairy will take care of those socks.

Wow, very nice! I had to scroll past you post really fast, as my wife has been on me for years to rip out our carpet and put down hardwoods, and I didn’t want her getting any ideas. I’m capable, just unwilling :)

I have no regrets. The work was very laborious to do the carpet removal. The installation is slow if you are an amateur like me but much more fun than the demo. There was so much dirt under the carpet it was just disgusting.

Is there acway to replace those hearth stones with wood...maybe that couch too.
Just kidding, looks nice

Or push them under the couch.
That works too.

We were joking it looks like a sauna. The paneling is cedar.

That floor is gorgeous. What are the plans for the rest of the room?

my wifes been asking that too. I want to wait until the baby can walk batter. The carpet is good landing padding. I Also want to finish the bathroom. Then fix the rotted window sills. But you know, getting rid of that perfectly good carpet is urgent.

I’ll install baseboard then move the furniture back in. I would like one of the walls to eventually be replaced with drywall and paint white.

That’ll be a nice contrast. It’ll make the room at once warm and open/airy.

I would encourage you to look off the beaten path for exotics, which if you find on sale or closeout won’t be much more than something less common like hickory. I have Brazilian teak (I think) which came out pretty similar to Brazilian cherry just more of a golden hue than a cherry. Came out to just about $4.50 a square foot.
And I know you didn’t ask... But I wouldn’t sweat the warranty and manufacturer too much. Solid hardwood floors are extremely difficult to get a claim accepted on. Laminate and engineered is a different story though.

Why not make your life easier, and just paint the wood white? My living room is covered floor to ceiling in ugly ass paneling. I just painted it. It looks great, and saved me about a kajillion hours labor.

Same difference!
