That’s right, I changed the air filter.
Wasn’t really bad, except you have to remove the air box to get the filter out. Good luck trying to get to all those screws with the air box still in.
Never realized that there were two filter elements in the 3. It doesn’t look like the second one is removable though.
Filter didn’t look bad at all, but since I had no service history I figured it was worth the $33 to just go ahead and change it.
I even managed to get it back together no problem, with a total time of only 9 minutes.

The other element is full of activated charcoal for some sort of emissions-related wizardry.

I’m surprised you don’t need to have it taken back to the dealer so that they can reset the the air filter computer or something. I’m actually seriously considering getting an E90 at some point... even though you need to do things like have the battery programmed they still seem like the last BMW that you can still sort of maintain on your own.

I believe you can get an app or something along those lines to program your battery for you. I should probably look into that, as my battery has been on its last legs... for like the past year. I probably will be working on my cars at some point. I need to get some specific tools, but it’s a lot cheaper to change brakes then have the dealer do it. I used to do some work on my explorer, but I had my parents garage then. I really need to invest in a trip removal tool and figure out why my usb/aux input isn’t working.
