I blame the many people who have half arse worked on the car and incorrectly torqued the bolts, etc... before you got it.
British Leyland was defunct in 1986. 31 years is a long time for cars to get poorly maintained.

Yeah, but it’s so convenient.

It’s always the British’s fault.
Cars breaking down, America, etc...
0:29 for the answer. Lol.

Don’t be so hard on your homeland! America was Britain’s greatest achievement. Well, after Top Gear, I mean.

I was. In truth, everyone knows Top Gear comes second. Although my daughter and I are really enjoying The Grand Tour now, and it may be even better than old TG.

I’d say it looks about right for the price. The rust around the front and back windshields is extremely common and not that big of an issue. The little side bumpers on the front bumper tend to break off since the studs are vulcanized into the rubber and the nut will rust to the stud. Biggest issue will probably be various little electronic parts in the engine bay going bad due age and getting brittle over time. I’d say it’s a fair price for the car.

Update: oh Jesus help me.
Got it for $2000 and drove it home about 100 milesjust fine. Pretty sure it needs a little transmission work- sounds awful in 1st and 2nd but fine at speed.

Change the fluid before you worry a ton about the transmission. I was hoping that was a TH400 like my XJ12 had, but apparently its a BW model 66...good transmission, and even if you need to replace it they’re a dime a dozen. Clean looking Jag though, always glad to see another S3 pop up on Oppo.

PO said he had the torque converter replaced but not trans apparently. Fluid looks clean and pink and is possibly overfilled. It makes loud grinding sounds like a gear is rubbing on something in first gear that rise with rpm. About half as loud in second then hardly at all in third.
I’m planning to take it to a transmission shop as soon as I get registration and plates sorted.
Also, paint is mostly decent as PO had it sprayed (pretty well) some years ago but plenty of rust underneath. Edges of footwells are a bit holy.
