Anyone have experience importing a vehicle (say 25+ yr old Defender) from the UK to the US? Particular importers to recommend? Cost estimates?

Additionally any info on the TDI Defenders would also be appreciated.

Choose wisely with a defender. This car in particular will be scrutinized to tears. You could reach out to Will Hedrick to see if he could point you in the right direction to avoid the hassle

I don’t know anything personally, but the reputable company Doug DeMuro got his Japanese R32 from also does a small number of European imports. I’m sure there are more companies specialized in Euro imports but that could be one place to look.

Also don’t think it costs more than a few thousand dollars for the shipping and the process of importing.

Cost is roughly $2000 to most east coast ports for a RORO shipment (not shipped in a container.

I don’t have experience of exporting cars myself, but there are several companies in the U.K. geared up and some solely to export Land Rovers to America.

There are many but contacting a U.K. or U.S. Land Rover club could help you find more and the most reputable.

Japan has many high quality euro left hand drive 4x4s. From what I have heard from friends (they imported g wagons) the prices are about the same but the trucks tend to be in better shape & much less rusty in Japan.

Can confirm - I met Will at Overland Expo East last year, and he is a really great guy. He’s had so much business come his way on Land Rovers alone, that he’s basically converted his entire law firm over to Land Rover import consults.
