Inspired by Highlander’s rental Cruze. The cargo capacity on my car is 21 cubic feet, and then only 40 with the seats folded down flat. This is due to the massive suspension pillars, high deck because RWD, and sharply-sloped hatch because looks triumphed over utility during the development of this car.

Kinja'd!!!

Doggo fits, and that’s what matters.

Now show us yours!

Mine is surprisingly spacious, for a tiny 2 door hatchback. And with the seats folded down, it’ll fit as much as my wife’s 2000 Ford Explorer.

Kinja'd!!!

It has 18 cubic feet of space with the seats up, almost 40 with the rear seats folded down.

On paper the storage space on my Volt is pretty tiny at less than 10 cubic feet; thanks heavily sloped rear glass.

It is very useful though because it’s fairly deep. It is 44" wide, 33" deep with the seats up, and 63" deep with the seats folded.

Kinja'd!!!

Sorry for the dark pic, but it was after 11pm when I saw the post.

IDK, not a lot. Sunday I had two back packs and a duffle bag in the hatch, and I couldn’t fit a roasted Vaughn Gittin Jr tire in the hatch. I had to fold the seat down and squeeze it through the door. Not all hatches are practical...

Stock photo from Netcarshow because my car is down on the street and I can’t be bothered right now. Google says it’s 20.6 cubic feet w/ seats up, 57.3 cubic feet w/ seats down. In metric figures, those are 583 litres and 1623 litres, respectively.

I keep an ice brush/scraper in my cargo area, along with a plastic tub containing an air compressor, a tire repair kit, and a tire pressure gauge.

Here’s the Legacy, it holds that much stuff, and more if you don’t want to see out the back.

I don’t have any pictures of the Raider empty, but I have this of it totally full of camping gear in like 2010.

Kinja'd!!!

I don’t think I have any pictures of the Volvo’s trunk, but it’s surprisingly large, and has the gas tank just chilling there. As in, the gas tank is the trunk floor. I’m sure that shouldn’t be the case, but whatever was supposed to be the trunk floor is long gone.

What a coincidence! 2010 Miata, just took this picture 2 days ago to convince my wife we could use it for a weekend away. This is the medium suitcase in a 3 piece set alongside 2 camp chairs. “Plenty” of room on both sides and still the recess under the suitcase to fit other things. I think I’ve read ~5.5 cubic feet?

(EDIT: Photo keeps getting Kinja’d)

With

Kinja'd!!!

or without the hat?

Kinja'd!!!

Without the box and the rear seat down, 44.4cf. Without the hat and with the rear seat up, 19 cf.

The cargo box gives me an additional 17 cf of cargo space, just a bit more than putting the back seat down. So, with the box and rear seat down, 61.4 cf. With the box and the rear seat up, 36 cf.

The box gave me enough extra room for all the gear in the second pic plus two more boy scouts in the back seat.

I also once fit all of this stuff in/on the Miata:

Kinja'd!!!

I can fit quite a bit of tools or camping supplies or groceries in the trunk though, especially with the spare tire removed. I dont trust a 16 year old 105 width tire anyways. Plus there is some storage space behind the seats with the top up and the whole passenger side.

Massive cargo capacity in my XC90. When we moved, we didn’t even need a moving van, outside of hauling the appliances, mattresses, and couch. It gets even bigger when you fold the front passenger’s seat flat!

Also, Ikea boxes fit like Tetris, almost as if that’s what Volvo used when designing the cargo area...
