Kinja'd!!!

Had to Google-fu it since I had no idea what it was as it was creeping behind me. It was a new Acura TLX A-spec.

It looked better, with the nicer wheels, exhaust tips, and so on.

Still not 100% certain what the A-spec is, but it apparently involves the above mentioned appearance package, bolstered sporty seats, and a 290-HP V6 with a 9-speed auto.

They start at 45 grand for a base A-spec. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, because new car prices are nuts anyway. However, a 340i starts just under 47 grand. Maybe it’s meant to compete against a GS F-sport, which starts at well over 50 grand?

Anyway. I wish them luck.

I’ve been kinda digging the TLX. Not enough to buy one, but enough to Turo one sometime.

I mean, CarMax has 2015 models with the V6 going for low $20k’s. Between this and a new Accord, I’m thinking a last-gen TLX might have an advantage.

The Acura dealer had a plain TSX when I went there. It was a nice color, but I hate the push-button shifter.

I’m thinking you’re right. They are Honda’s after all. My Mom has put 14 years of hard miles on her RL, and it’s still a great car to be in. People knock them for being not fancy enough to be a premium brand over a nicely optioned Honda, but I think that’s bull. They’re not full-on luxury, but they’re a good deal at the prices I’m seeing.

Isn’t it almost the same car? This is just a midcycle refresh, no?

Front end less awful than the Lexus.

Passed a black one on my way back from STL, looked great until I saw that stupid grille.

I dunno. A V6 with upgraded interior, 9-speed trans, extra features, for the price of a base Accord with a CVT and 189 hp engine. I’m liking the Acura.

I literally just saw one of those when I was pulling into my apartment complex, I was wondering what model it was.

It really is surprising how many non-car people don’t know that Acuras are Hondas.

TLX, not TSX.

If the engine is still the same as the 2015MY then the V6 Accord (RIP) is faster than it. All that extra weight with a very minimal power increase

Better than the beak shield look, but that’s faint praise.

Yeah, I just kinda assume everyone knows.

Maybe that’s part of the Acura branding strategy?

Must be, and it seems to be fairly recent. I know if you look under the hood of an Integra you’ll see “Honda Motor Co.” on the valve cover, but my TSX doesn’t have any Honda references anywhere that I know of.

I mean, Toyota learned to stop badge engineering Lexus a while back. Maybe Honda is learning the same lesson if they want Acura to make a go of it.

They’re sloooowly learning. The TLX and MDX are the only ones that are even remotely their own things. The NSX and RLX are sold as Hondas overseas, the ILX is an upscale version of the *previous* Civic (though it now shares the 8-speed DCT with the TLX), and the RDX is basically a nicer CR-V with a V6, and will probably be a rebadged Avancier (a China-only SUV that’s closely related to the CR-V but has a detuned Type R engine) before long.

Yeah, but that TLX is a good start.

Yeah. It looks good, but I don’t trust that push-button shifter. It’s already been recalled once for it not working properly, IIRC.

All of them are crap except the TLX V6 SH-AWD, which is amazing.

The transmission is horribly unresponsive unless the car is in Sport+, then it’s amazing too. Seriously I’ve never seen a transmission that wakes up so much from just the mode being changed.

It also has to have 19" wheels; the stock wheels are too narrow and the stock tires are awful.

But those are out there for a reasonable price too.

The Accord has gotten a lot of grief (forever) about wind and road noise in the cabin. The TLX apparently doesn’t have this issue. It remains to be seen if the new Accord will address the problem, but it seems like the only reason to get a new 2.0T Accord over a used TLX might be for that new car smell, or to row your own gears.

Have the solved all the 9spd transmission complaints? That was the biggest gripe about the TLX

No idea, but if you get the 4-banger it has a DCT instead of the auto.
