After reading through the volvo sub-reddit it looks like Grom makes a box that plugs into the port designed for the external CD changer and through some trickery gives you an aux input. Anybody done this before and have a suggested process before I go down the reddit rabbit hole looking for a guide/video.

Imiv. I put one in my xc70. It even gave me a camera and av in for my nav screen. Bought mine on the cheap via ebay. I use a Bluetooth to 30 pin iPod adaptor and I have Bluetooth and aux in. Or iPod if I ever buy an old one. Volvotech.eu is the direct retailer.

I did something like that in my 03 Civic and 06 Mazda3 years ago.

If you can get the head unit out it’s usually a pretty easy job and works pretty well.

I have a Grom unit that plugs into where my CD changer was in the trunk and gives me bluetooth and it works wonderfully. Your installation is probably a bit more involved if it’s in the dash but it was straightforward otherwise. You’ll get an adaptor that plugs directly into whatever the OEM connector was. I also had to wire mine in to power because my amp uses a digital signal and the additiona analog converter I had to buy needed to be powered.

There’s no trickery involved. The head unit still thinks a CD changer is plugged in, so I just select the CD input to listen to my own music.

My V70 doesn’t have nav so I’m just looking to stream off a device.

I added one to Mrs McMike’s 2003 Civic. It was simple enough. The toughest part was taking the dash apart to get to the back of the radio.

I put the 1/4" jack in a blanking plate on the dash so if I fucked it up I could order a replacement bit and not ruin the dash.

That is what I’m expecting, I haven’t looked too much yet.

Expensive solution, in my opinion. Can’t you just get a Bluetooth thingy?

I would look on swedespeed.com, I am sure someone over there has done it and posted instructions.

Imiv makes a simpler unit at a lower cost, but grom has more distributors and can probably be found cheaper.

Hope it helps. I have a soft spot for all things volvo... My only other suggestion is to buy all consumables at FCP Euro. Lifetime free replacement for everything they sell. Windshield wipers, brake pads, rotors, etc. When they wear out they will replace them for the cost of shipping the parts back.

Found the photos from 2007. I remember the instructions being fairly simple.

It doesn’t look bad, just a trim tool and a torx bit to take some trim off then remove the headunit/AC controlls to plug it in and route the wires. Thankfully its not remove half the dash to get this out.

I have the cheaper Grom unit that just does AUX on my VR. Works great. I later added a female AUX jack next to the 12V socket.

I have not, but I’ve been eyeing up the unit for my Land Cruiser.
