Australia’s a haven for dead/dying store names. For example;

Kinja'd!!!

They’ve still got Blockbuster (Supposedly due to their shit internet, and most stores are actually closing down. However, the brand is still in use in Australia, which is more than could be said for the rest of the world.)

Kinja'd!!!

They’ve still got Woolworths, although the Australian Woolworths chain probably has more to do with Safeway than the Woolworths five-and-dime chain that closed down at various times throughout the world.

Kinja'd!!!

And they’ve still got Kmart. Yes, Kmart still exists in the States (In Canada all Kmarts closed down around the late 90s or so.), but really, how much longer are they gonna last? Unlike in the states, Australian Kmart (Which, like Woolworths, actually has very little to do with American Kmart apart from the name.) isn’t completely in the shitter.

I think Australia might just be stuck in the past. This IS the country that only just got Amazon.

Target seem to be doing okay-ish in the States. However, we can’t forget the massive joke that was Target in Canada.

We truly miss a few of those nameplates ... some others, we could lose without regret.

Amazon hasn’t launched yet apart their Kindle presence. Imminent yes but launched ...no.

We also have Lowe’s. But it’s not a hardware store.

However, you call yourselves First World Countries and you don’t have stores like this...

I live in America, but my work had a movie rental place. Movies were $1.50 a night and they were more up-to-date than RedBox. I only left two weeks ago.

We had an exchange student from Australia that hung out with us in high school in Canada. We made fun of her for working at K-Mart back in Oz. I feel guilty now.

Yeah I’m not sure what they expected when they tried that, buying out a dying retailer and then attempting to occupy the exact same market space.

I’m not sure what the TJM is, but I’ve definitely seen places like the ARB and the Silverton Hotel in the U.S. In fact the Silverton looks like it’s designed to resemble old southwestern U.S. architecture

TJM is another chain of 4x4 equipment stores like ARB and Opposite Lock...just a tad more frequently found.

The Silverton is just a pub...most every town that is not ending in some way has at least one pub. Architecturally, it’s non-descript faux Georgian on the outside but inside it’s more 30's to 50's

Some of my other favourite pubs include...

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

and then there’s this one...(kind of my local)

Kinja'd!!!

but it has now been gentrified...

We’ve definitely got pubs, even in the towns that are ending.

At least with Zellers you knew what you were getting*. With Target, people expected it to be like the US Target, instead it was expensive Walmart with no actual stock.

*What you got was tetanus, malaria, hay fever and several other various diseases every time you walked into Zellers. And then you got yelled at by the employees for being in their store 5 hours before it closes.
