Thoughts? Ideas on which network to go to? (As far as major networks, I’m on EFNet, Freenode, and Snoonet.)

Why not Discord instead of IRC?

Because I don’t want to run an entire Chrome instance just to do basically the same thing as IRC? (Slack has the same problem.)

Chrome instance...? Discord can run in any browser and you just run it in a new tab? There are desktop clients too though, or am I misunderstanding? You do need a account though.

The problem is that the desktop clients aren’t really native, they’re Electron-based - basically, they’re running the website in Chrome, inside of a wrapper.
This doesn’t work well on mobile, and it eats your RAM on desktop.

Didn’t know that, huh.
That being said, Discord seems to work fine for me on mobile (my friends and family each have their own server I am on) and my desktop client (on Linux atm) is only using 300mb of RAM out of my 8GB, so not doing too badly.

There was an oppo IRC channel a while ago but it was a drama/politco-shitstorm most days so I stopped using it. No idea if there’s anything now, but it could be cool.

Like, 50/50 on the shitstorm. Granted, during that point in time (2014/2015) there were just a lot of shitstorms on Oppo that spilled over.

I’d tend to say Freenode, but I think something web-based with a backlog that isn’t based on something being connected at all times Would be better for us.

Slack has an app. No need to use a browser. And it works quite well on mobile.

I use the discord app on my phone. Haven’t had any issues
