Can’t lie- when I read the press car for the week was to be a 19k Mitsubishi, well I knew it wasn’t the Evo, and at first I was a little bummed.
Mitsubishi Lancer I thought, that is a great car, but isn’t it going away? Well it is sadly, this is the last year. That also means the Evo is going away which makes me really sad to think about. :( So I went to the beach to cheer myself up.
Got to take what I think of as a solid rally cars out onto some sand. Even with justFWD, it was still fun.
Ok, so onto the car I actually drove, it was the Limited Edition. It had a starting price of 19k and came with lots of kit. So how did it drive? Actually not too bad.
The electric steering was by far the weakest link. Next came the CVT which didn’t have a sports mode. :( Lame.
The little engine was competent & pretty fuel efficient. Also, it actually had a nice tone, as you’ll hear below. The suspension was decently tuned and the car was pretty comfortable and had ALOT of technology for a car of this price. CarPlay/Android Auto, MoonRoof, Bluetooth, upgraded rims, sporty interior- this Limited Edition is the REAL DEAL. With cars pushing over 30k now, this shows a good car can be build for under 20k!
If you can find one and your budget is under 20k, prob closer to 15-18k w/ incentives this may be the car for you! Check out the video for more thoughts.
As always, it means a lot if you Star, Share, Comment, and Follow.

Don’t worry. When the Lancer Evo Cross performance compact CUV with no manual or AWD comes out, you’ll feel better!
(no you won’t)

haha, I most certainly won’t. The lancer w/ some very minor updates could have stayed relevant, but alas, no one buys sedans or coupes or convertible anymore. Damn SUVs. No CUV can please me, except maybe the Alfa Stelvio.

The lack of anything cool from Mitsubishi makes me so sad. Even a Turbo Mirage would be good. Just in the 90s they had the Turbo Colt, Eclipse GST and GSX, the Galant VR-4, and the 3000GT. Exciting performance cars for any budget and life style. And that’s just the cars they sold in the US.

Nowadays, it’s more like; Hey, it’s the Mitsubishi... Uhh... Mitsubishi...that one! You know, with the four doors? The...the...fourdoor! Yeah, the mitsubishi fourdoor.

I think in terms of public opinion and market share Mitsubishi has switched places with Kia, or Hyundai

“Got to take what is one of the original rally cars out onto some sand. Even with FWD it was fun.”
I wouldn’t consider anything that was first produced after 1990 (lancer evolution) to be one of the original rally cars.

That’s a good point. When I was growing up and rallying it was a lot Subarus, Evos, etc. Technically one of the originals would be the Audi Quattro? A bit before my time but still legendary.

Rallying started even before the Audi’s. Kinda depends on your definition of rally racing.
FIA sanctioned rallies started back in the 50's.
The FIA’s WRC started in the 70's with the stratos and escorts.
Some of the best known rally cars are the things of group b and whatnot (lancias, Quattro, etc.) Of the 80's.
Some other well known cars and events before that include the Moroccan rally with the 240z in the 70's.
But most people reference group B and the insane cars that came out in the 80's. Though rally racing can be traced back to the earliest days in motor racing.

So, would you buy this car if you were in the under 20k budget and you could get one for 15-17k?
