Because Codemasters missed the mark with their system requirements big time. My 960M should crush the recommended 460 (which did seem kinda low) but when I start the game I can barely hit 50 fps at 720p on low settings (for reference, DiRT 4 runs 60 fps at 1080p and medium settings on my PC). Uggghh. Guess I am going to have to give up the option to use my wheel and get it for XBOX instead.

Bruh, i think they meant a 460 full die gpu not the mobile platform 960m. What wheel do you have that will not work through Win 10 Xbox streaming?

The 960M is slightly more powerful than a 750ti but slightly behind the 760. Benchmarks put the 960M as being 28% faster than the old 460. It might be a mobile GPU but it is still 5 generations newer.
Last I tried game streaming it was a laggy mess and you had to use an Xbox one controller.

lol no. a 960 M is barely power powerful then a 460, but has way less worse reflection handling.
also, its probably something else bottle necking it.
EDIT: also the MINIMUM is the 460. not the recommended.

960M is 26-28% faster overall than the 460 depending on which benchmarks you look at. The 960m is generally considered to be equivalent to the 750ti as it generally benches within 8% of the 750ti with the advantage of the 750ti being that it has better cooling allowing higher clock speeds (though the improved driver optimization of the newer 960m often makes up for the raw performance difference). I know the limits of my machine and how it compares to desktop requirements.

Mobile GPUs always suck compared to full desktop graphics equivalents. They run way hotter and throttle themselves way down to keep from frying.

at max peak MAYBE. but as soon as you get a little bit of heat into it, its gone. self throttling will kill you.

That is true. A 960 wipes the floor with my card. However a 960m generally matches the performance of a 750ti and is almost 30% faster than the 460 codemasters recommends. It’s getting a bit weak these days but can still do 1080p on low-medium settings in most newer games.

You say that but I have never seen my particular card reduce speeds from it’s 1211mhz peak boost clock in gaming loads (I have gotten it to throttle stress testing it with an overclock for giggles though). Highest temps I have seen was 87C (being an idiot trying to run The Witcher 3 at 1440p) and the mobile cards don’t throttle until 90c. I got really lucky in the silicon lottery and also got a good factory paste job.

the 100% helps. last ‘gaming’ laptop I had had a HORRENDOUS paste job and would regularly hit 90C.

Since I’m moving back into college on Sunday I was going to be mostly playing on a controller anyway but would have really liked to be able to hook up my G27 when I was home.

I got super lucky with the paste job on mine. I have a late 2015 XPS 15 which has a bit of a reputation for poor heatsink installations but my unit (which was part of the very first batch of non touch units produced) has been perfect.

Dells quality has improved so much in the last couple of years. The XPS series is now a true match for the MacBook Pros in terms of build quality and usability.

even then it was fine...apples stuff was shitty specs at the time.
I think its still in use upstairs as my dads laptop actually. I have since moved on to a Alienware X51 R2 Desktop

Back up . That’s very playable isnt it? My 960m plays very few things at 1080p at a usable frame rate.

That sucks. It plays fine on my Xbox One, but there are some graphics improvements over the 2016 game that could use more resources. On Xbox, there is certainly more detail in the track surface textures than last year.
So far as the handling model, there is certainly more aero and mechanical grip. The biggest change so far seems to be that throttle strategy out of low speed corners is decidedly different from last year.

Man, WAY too many haters in here tonight....
I’ve gamed exclusively on laptops since 2007 and been just fine. Well, besides the 8600GT. That thing was a pile of junk. After that, everything has been A-OK since. I miss my old 9800 GTS’s peak time when it was crushing most games on max just fine....and was portable. But the 960M is damn fine for low end specs. No reason to settle for a peak of low 50s on low. I have a lenovo Y700 with it. Plenty of new/newer games run buttery smooth on high settings. I run overwatch on high no problem.
Think it might be a driver issue? Any chance you use nvidia’s driver updater to keep up to date?

raw power and real world are not at all the same. Modern drivers and architectures let newer, but :lower power” cards run new games better than the older “higher pwoered” cards. 960M was a bit of a rehash, but it should be a solid world or two away from the 460.

When I was a kid, we were happy to get 20 FPS. At 320x200. ;)

Not hating, I’m quite happy with my current setup. There’s no way this is playable on a 460. I’m running the latest drivers which are supposedly game ready for F1 2017.

This is my first machine with a dedicated GPU. I gamed on an Intel 2310M with HD3000 graphics for 4 years before getting this machine. Skyrim played in potato vision at 600p and 15 fps.

The little that I experienced with the Williams at Spa tells me that short shifting out of slow corners is important. I will be joining you on xbox, probably going to grab a copy while I am out today.

Oh not, you, the haters comment was aimed at all the naysayers getting upset that you expect your gaming card to function well.

As long as you don’t have too many hours of play time I’ve had really good experiences with the Steam refund policy. I’ve had a number of games that were just buggy or couldn’t get running or once they did run just sucked and I returned them no problem.

I only logged 36 minutes. Got my refund this morning and then made 2 trips to Target to get a working copy for Xbox one.

Not very. It screen tears like crazy, looks like ass, and the frame rate is pathetic. I can hit 60 fps on DOOM low-medium settings at 80% resolution scaling, Witcher 3 at 1080p low in the high 50s (not quite a stable 60), and this game is a mess at 720 at the lowest settings when my system far exceeds the system requirements. The 960m is getting a bit weak but you can still get good experiences if you fiddle with the settings. The trick is to configure the settings for a bit of thermal headroom.
