We’re on the “dirty side” of the storm (Houston). If it follows this path, my house will get about 20-30" of rain over the next few days. You didn’t misread that.
If the storm deviates a bit north from that direct line but still in the “cone of uncertainty”, then my house will get that much rain AND probably hurricane force winds.
There are a few Opponauts who will be impacted with the storm’s current course. I hope they ALL come out of this okay. A Cat. 3 hurricane is a serious situation, even to some of us who are used to hurricanes.
Again: shit.

That’s a lot of rain.

good luck.

Have they still not declared mandatory evac?

Hang in there. The NWS has gotten into the habit of making things sound as scary as possible in the wake of Katrina. My wife’s friend evacuated somebody from Houston for that storm and it took her 20 hours to reach Austin. If you’re gonna go, you’d best be driving now.

We left the day before “The World’s Largest Traffic Jam” to Austin. The thing is, I’ve been through hurricanes before. A Cat 1 is nothing. A Cat 3, however, can be quite crappy. And deadly.

I think Port Aransas has a mandatory evacuation, but around here, we’re too far from the gulf (one county buffer) for a mandatory evac. We might be without electricity for a few days, though.

I can’t even comphrehend that amount of rain. We had flooding a few weeks ago when a storm dropped 2" of rain... 20-30" is about how much rain I see in three years. Good luck.

I rode out a Cat 2, Diana, back in 1984. It turned out to bo somewhat of a nothingburger for us, but we were on the weak side of the storm. Lots of flooding, but that was it. Then again, Norfolk, VA, which is barely above sea level, floods with a heavy downpour. Harvey could be a real PIA. Stay safe.

My parents were without power for a week after Irene. Fortunately, they had a gas grill and could still cook. But that storm was a major SOB.

My house should be good, but there won’t be any pizza being delivered. Or Chinese food. Or travel in general.

We SHOULD be okay, but like I said, if the storm tracks a bit more north, we’ll be on the dirty side of a shit sandwich.

We left for both Rita and Ike, and some of the neighboring subdivisions didn’t have power for a week. I’ll be in Austin if that happens.

Sorry to hear that. We were there during Allison. She dumped 23" just north of us. It was messy.
Stay safe and keep dry!

Good luck and
That’s something to massively worry about. My mom has had to evacuate four hurricanes (she lived in Charleston sc) and they aren’t something to mess around with

This is my big fear, especially after I realized that the only non-refrigerated food I have that doesn’t need cooking is like two bananas. Going to try to go shopping later tonight, couldn’t even get near a store earlier today.

My wife’s (then girlfriend) boss was the jackass riding his jet ski down IH-10 during Allison.

Buy up as much pizza, chinese food and beer that you can fit in your house, and make a fortune delivering food. No one will care about the cold food and warm beer.

A category 1 or a light 2... we’d probably stick around for. A cat 3? Nope.

The premium items during a hurricane (and its ensuing aftermath) are TP, hard liquor, and beer.

In order for the federal government to utilize the National Guard for an emergency, the Governor of that state must formally request assistance. But I don’t expect FEMA to respond any differently than it has in past natural disasters (which is to say, they suck and it will be more of the same).
