Today I saw a live Golf Mk1 out and about, an unusual sight these days.
Looked just like this (not my pic)
Looked closer, and matters became confusing. The grille looked more like a Mk2 and the rear lights were unlike any Golf I ever saw before.
To add to the weirdness, 2009 plates. A 2009 Mk1? What kind of hallucination is this? Some kind of weird foreign import? Seemingly no as RHD. Then the penny dropped. Updated ancient Golf, rhd....didn’t the South Africans do odd local things? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
So there we have it. A long way from home and all alone in a strange land.

I’ve seen one or two fairly recently. I can’t remember the last time I saw a stock example though.

Man that thing brings back memories. A friend had one with a turbo VR6 swap. He bought the shell in perfect condition painted the same blue as the C6 zo6 and built it from there. He had it stored in a barn that collapsed while he was out of town! I’ll have to see if I can dig up a pic, it was such a cool car.
