“Hey, check out that Cadillac!” or “Let’s take a picture in front of the Cadillac!”
I hear that everytime I go anywhere with it
No I understand not everybody is a car person, and I let slip the occasional 1959 Impala confusion, but it is says CHEVROLET in capital letters on the hood of the car!
I drive a regular down to earth Chevy. It’s not even the top of the line Impala. I don’t want to be associated with M. Fancypants driving his ostentatious Series 62. I’m a simple man with humble needs.

[edit] Also: the Pajero is no Jeep, the 505 is no 504, and the 6 cylinder Bel Air is no V6.

fins + 50s = Cadillac. It checks out.
I can’t imagine many people are familiar with old American iron on that side of the Atlantic

Not really.
Also, it might be a late 50's design, but it’s a 1960 model year /pedant

I can never remember. Is this a Bel Air or a Biscayne?

Bel Air, the Biscayne didn’t have the chrome around the tail light panel and on the quarter panel

Maybe you should convert it to a Ute. Then no-one would think it was a Cadillac.

It is a body on frame, so easy conversion. And El Caminos are worth more, so...

Looks like a Cadillac to me (know nothing about American cars).

I drove a mariage on friday, and a kid, about 4-6 years old, started asking technical questions about the car (manual/auto, column mounted selector...) I was masivelly impressed. Gave me hope for the future of gearheads

Most people do, It’s kind of like my Pajero is a Jeep to a lot of people, and my 505 becomes a 504

I’m being sensible, I dont need a 5,76m yacht, 5,35 are sufficient.
And who needs 4 gears anyway? 2 are plenty!

I’m only driving my 5,33m yacht because my 5,77m yacht isn’t rebuilt yet. Both have three luxuuuurious gears.

I can believe it. Years ago, a guy came up to me and asked “are you the guy who has that old blue Bentley?”. He was referring to this:

Because luxury is having useless overhang :)
In other news: I have to take care not to hit the pump with the rear of my car when leaving the gas station

You’ve also got the same trouble as I have, in needing a long hose and to pull well past the pump.

How? I thought the three pointed star on the hood was the most iconic emblem in existence

I haven’t had a problem with that yet. But everytime I fill up, I’m reminded I wanted to put a small rod behind the license plate so I can block the plate in the open position while pumping gas. Someday I’ll think of it

Some people just aren’t that into it or good at it, even if they think they are.
It’s also fun asking non-anoraks what they think about cars (my mom, who is generally with-it, thought an Infiniti M was a Buick, Scion xB was a Russian car).

Bizarrely, a lot of the pumps in my town here in the suburban US do not have long fill hoses, so getting the Galaxie filled properly is at times rather hard. Too much of a history of enough pumps for all cars and all cars having fills on one side or the other. Its fill cover would benefit from a latch of some kind too, certainly.

Then again, the Infiniti is pretty anonymous, and the xB is boxy, all boxy cars are russian, aren’t they?

The downside with long hoses is seeing people drag the hose over their cars to get to the filler on the other dsaide, instead of going to the right (free!) pump and blocking you. I cringe every time

This is the start of one of the coolest car collections! If someone just went full GTA from a given era and had all the cars in the game. Barring GTA V of course, no one cares to collect all of those cars that arn’t really iconic anyway.

Love it. As we looked up pictures of other badass ‘60 Chevys, my coworker and I were just wondering why the hell we’ve spent all these years dicking around with old European cars when old American iron is so badass.
