It was a basket case when it got here. Rattlecan primer black that was soft and would peel with a fingernail, frame had been clipped (incorrectly). Slammed to the ground with air shocks and (I think) 10 leaf rear springs. Universal wiring harness installed (incorrectly), wired for a GM 1 (3) wire alternator, but had an older externally regulated alternator installed (oops). Distributor set up for clockwise rotation (it spins counterclockwise).

Didn’t go all out (eliminated bodysides to save expense of replacement per customer, cleaned up original bumpers as best as possible, cheap universal door mirrors, no new emblems, etc), but at least it’s now functional and presentable.

Distributor set up for clockwise rotation (it spins counterclockwise).

How do you even do that in an age where it takes 5 seconds to look up a firing order diagram?

This is the same truck I learned to drive in and it is in supremely better condition than our truck that I used to use for driving over trees and stuff. Our truck was all original and I finally told my mom to stop using it when the fuel pump diaphragm cracked and started to squirt fuel onto the exhaust header. Ours was the 3/4 ton version. It had a wooden bed, and the battery was under the passenger foot well.

It has a 66 grille (I actually prefer the 65).

Good eye! The 65 grille wasn’t available as a reproduction (that I know of). The original grille, along with the bodyside moldings, was destroyed when the stock wheels and tires were tossed on top of them in the bed by the previous shop.

Back when I saw that truck in the game Blur & when I saw that truck beat a Chevrolet corvette in a drag race I knew I had to change my insight just slightly on some pickup trucks and their capability. :P
