After a month of radio silence, the local Mazda dealer “looked into” the seat replacement they promised me. Apparently they had supply chain issues somewhere along the line, but whatever the reason, the Miata will be getting a replacement seat soon. Here’s to hoping they don’t somehow crash the car into a wall during the repair.

For those not in the loop, I took my car to the local dealer for an oil change and a possible warranty repair. They left the top down on a hot summer day and their plastic wrap melted to my seat. No amount of detailing could get the stains out. They promised to take care of it, but I heard nothing until I emailed the manager earlier this week.

The Miata is now one step closer to taking the Best of Show award at the 2094 Concours d’Elegance held in Salinas after rising sea levels have swallowed Pebble Beach up.

Silly question but how large is your Mazda dealers service department?

I only ask because I’m in a relatively large town (one of the tourist capitals of the US, definitely not the middle of nowhere) and my Mazda dealers service department is 1 advisor and 2 techs. That’s it.

It’s part of a giant dealership chain, so it’s pretty decently sized for a niche, non-Toyota brand. The Mazda branch closest to me has something like 6-8 lifts, several advisers and many more techs, and shares the area with their Subaru dealership.

Good luck with that. The only car I ever bought new had basically that happen on its first warranty visit to a dealer. They backed it into the post of the lift with the door open and smashed up the door nicely. They were pretty elusive about how it happened, but I think the tech didn’t understand the difference between “1" and “R” on the shifter.

This is the same dealership that about 10 years later flat out refused to perform the Takata airbag recall when I showed up for my scheduled appointment, because they couldn’t be bothered to order any parts.

Mazda, you build some nice cars, but your dealers generally suck.
