Brand New - Science Fiction. Full album. I’m sure someone will be able to specifically identify the neat old Mercedes on the cover.

I personally find this album to be a continuation of their previous album, Daisy , but instead of angst, we hear acceptance, maybe even a form of calm resignation, like the writer is waiting for an end. Its has a mellow sound and is accessible and easy to listen to, but is definitely worth a deeper listen from beginning to end when you have the time.

Waste (10:01), Same Logic/Teeth (14:35), and Desert (39:26) are my favorite tracks so far.

I’ll be picking up a copy of this today. I expect I’ll listen to it many times before I really know how I feel about it. I actually hated Daisy at first, but over the course of about 4 years I ended up loving it.

I hate to pander to the r/brandnew fanboyism.. but this album is unbelievably good. Like Deja and TDAG had a kid. I was pumped for a “I’m a nightmare” YFW weapon re-hash, but this has got me going all sorts of silly.

I really like how brand new’s albums have progressed. All rise until the peak of TDAG, the break and descent into chaos of Daisy, and the quiet acceptance and self-actualization of Science Fiction.

Every album is like a new chapter of a story, and its a story I’ll never get tired of.

TDAG was ridiculous when it came out. Completely out of nowhere. I couldn’t stand Daisy when it came out, but I enjoy it now. I can’t just put on either and go straight through and be into the whole thing. Not because they’re bad albums, idk, just something about them. Deja is forever, and I started with YFW when I was in high school so thats always near and dear to me. The demos album is probably my favorite.

Deja was my gateway drug, but TDAG was the album that got into my soul and stayed, like heroin

I had been aware of Brand New, but I only really got into Brand New a few years ago.

I started with TDAG and quickly found Daisy, so that would make them my favorites. I favor Daisy if I’m in a down mood, and go to TDAG if I just want to rage. Deja is a good album, and is the album of theirs I was familiar with before I became a fan; I like it, but it doesn’t speak to me like Daisy and TDAG. Ditto for YFW, I can’t really get into that one. I’m not saying its bad, but I don’t lose myself in the songs like I do with Daisy, TDAG, and now SciFi. It probably has a lot to do with me being a more recent fan.

It kind of blows my mind how much I hear people say that hate or used to hate Daisy. But I got to experience the albums differently so I guess the change in Daisy was a bigger deal when it came out.

Yea, thats definitely how it is. Depends on where you started. I got into YFW like 6 months before Deja came out.

I hated Daisy at first because it was so different from Deja Entendu. That’s the album that sucked me in as a teenager, so I was disappointed with TDAG and Daisy at first. Years later, in my late twenties, I got really into both of them and suddenly Deja seemed childish. Brand New has evolved, and now I can appreciate the full range of their work, it just took me a long time.

I agree about some of their old stuff sounding childish, that’s how I felt about Deja and YFW when I “re-discovered” Brand New. But I listened to it a few more times, and really began to appreciate it because through the honesty of their lyrics you can really follow the maturation of the band. And they just freakin’ rock.
