It’d be fun to see RT do a revisit. Find well cared for used (stone stock) examples of the same machines and run them through the same tests.

I love these old reviews. Funny how in 1996 a mag went into an offroad test and said “Buy that electronic shifting transfer case!” and 20 years laters everyone is like, “So refreshing to find a manually operated transfer case.” Not surprised the Rover is on top, the P38 was a magical piece of engineering when it was new.

The article lost me at the point where they said a Holden Jackaroo with a Honda badge and some interior bling cost US$38,000 in 1996. Sheer and utter crack pipe!!!!

Back when men were men and luxury SUVs were slow, lumbering piles of leather and steel.
