There’s actually a free way to view the eclipse, and see MORE than anyone who overpaid for glasses.
Find a parking lot or some other place without trees blocking the view of the sky. Park your car at the right angle, preferably with your back turned to the sun.

Somebody at work said number 12 or greater welding mask would work, I’ll stick to the eclipse glasses.

I called an observatory near me and they said number 14 was dark enough.

Hmm I guess I will have to, I couldn’t get overpriced glasses and I can’t find my welding goggles. My CRV is tinted. SF isn’t in the path of totality but it’s like one click over so it should be ok.

No, you idiots, you need Shade-rated protection. 14 and up recommended by NASA (which exceeds most off-the-shelf welding helmets).
