Weekend goal: drink a bottle of champagne on Mt. Rainier. Going with three other people, in the Miata and a TT. My convertible bro, his girlfriend, and a waitress I met last week. Oppo, if you find someone who wants to go on an multi-day adventure for the first date... You drop everything and make it happen. Have some packing pictures for lolz

You’ll need more champagne, and photos of you and your intended standing atop ... something important.

My weekend plans all fell through so I’m sort of scrambling to figure out what to do with myself.

I shoulda got the Miata. If you can fit all that shit on the rack, I can fit a chair.

you have the perfect sidewall to wheelgap ratio.

Not that it is in any way shape or form expected or to be demanded, but I see no condoms here! You equip your Miata with a roll bar but won’t give your own mini-driver a proper “helmet”? He could be involved in a “head-on” impact! Repeatedly! And what if you need to be a good friend for the other couple? It never hurts to be prepared!
(Note - please.dont take this to mean it is some pressure or expectation that you or anyone else needs to do the horizontal mambo. It is meant in jest and I hope you all have a wonderful time and.if you do decide to do the naked hokey pokey that you all have a safe, and consensual, trip down your partner’s “private drive”)

#small car life. I think my Datsun 240z’s actually had more cargo carrying capacity than a Miata.

This is GREAT Oppo! Best of luck! I would like to see a photo of you crushing some champagne atop a mountain!

I used to coach a swim team. One of the kid’s dad was in a wheelchair. He owned four vehicles: a 1970 Eldorado convertible, a late 70's Jeep Grand Wagoneer, a Fiat Spider, and a Harley that he drove from a sidecar.
For the bike he had a ramp on the sidecar that he rolled up and could control the bike from there.
The Fiat he folded the chair and strapped it to the luggage rack. He had little holders for the bigger wheels that look like what Yakima sells for transporting bike tires on their roof racks.

See, I was thinking to do exactly that for my chair with a Miata or Fiata. I chickened out when I realized how hard it would be to have another person in my car and still reach my chair. I can easily put it in the passenger seat, but then no passenger.
I’ve fantasized about a bike with a side car, but I would sit the bike, not ride in the sidecar.
Funny enough, I also was a swim coach for my daughter’s summer team.

I don’t know what your level of mobility is, but if the trunk were big enough would putting the wheels in the trunk and the body of a chair folded on a luggage rack be an option?
I’ve also seen a couple cars with little cargo carriers that slide into a hitch that are just wide enough for a folded chair. It would ruin the aesthetics and maybe handling somewhat, but it beats a boring car still.

We checked that out. the wheels fit in the trunk of the Fiat, but not the Miata. The chair is a rigid frame, but I figured out how it could be packed on the trunk rack. All this would require the passenger to bring me the chair parts when we arrived wherever we were going, and I couldn’t drop someone off and continue alone. Still, it could be done, especially as a second car. I still hold out hope for that.

The fact that they fit in the Fiat but not the Miata is the most surprising thing. I think it would make a great second car for sure. Second cars aren’t meant to be practical.

My wife would have agreed to it as my only car, too. But in the end, I opted for something that would allow me to be more useful. Second car is now my goal to shoot for!

Damn! Just got service. The champagne was crushed, so this is the best I can do! Fun fact: we’ve gone from 31° to 76°, with thick fog, mist, hail, snow, rain and glaring sunshine all within a few hours and about 3000ft of elevation change. What a cool place

Most people I know around my age tend to be really flakey so I’ve gotten in the habit of always having a solo backup plan

You know, for one person the Miata can EASILY hold every single thing you’d need for super luxurious car camping. Two people is a stretch, even with the rack. I saw a nice 240z up here with a gorgeous creamy pearl paint job. Couldn’t take a picture in time....

Thank you! I think I found the balance between offroad-ability, street-ability, and looks. That said, the hundred plus pounds currently over the rear wheels is pretty noticeable... I stiffened the rear shocks a bit more than the front to keep things manageable but I may have to stiffen em up even more

I love packing my Miata for camping. I usually cram the stuff into a suitcase just because its easier to mount to the luggage rack.
Ive also packed all of that AND 4 wheels with my autox tires. That was real fun fitting that stuff. I have no idea why I didnt take a picture...
