My only complaint with driving position in the RX-7 (which is seriously comfy) was the lack of dead pedal - especially on longer trips, my left foot got tired of awkwardly slumping over near the clutch. It turns out the dead pedal was an option, and having a very-very-base model, mine didn’t have it (I’ve got a tape deck that may or may not have been standard and dealer-installed A/C, that’s it).
A bit of money sent to a guy on the forums parting out a couple FBs and 10 minutes jammed into the footwell solved that.
Felt pretty good just sitting there; tomorrow I’ll find out how it is in-action, I suppose.

.... how it is in inaction, even!
Nice work!

That’s not something that should have even been an option.

Yeah, I find it hard to believe anyone would prefer it not to be there.
Being a late-’85 build (last model year of the FB) completely-base model, I suspect someone wanted one, saw what the ‘86s looked like (the FC) and ran out and bought an FB while they could - and wasn’t really financially ready.
Or someone just wanted a base model. Either way.

It’s the big things that matter:
I love that my Golf (stock photo, but my pedals - thanks VW TDI Sorry Money!) has an incredibly large dead pedal. I’ve driven plenty of cars without a dead pedal and I am miserable, and that’s just after five minutes.
And it’s not just VW that knows how to do a dead pedal, it’s all the Germans. An E46 has a dead pedal about the same size. My W202's is slightly smaller, but still bigger than most American or Japanese pedals, if they even have one.

I’m pretty sure my F-100 does not even have the pretense of a dead pedal and it’s never bothered me. I’ve driven 14 hours at a time and never had an issue with it. Maybe it’s that I sit up high enough and the cab is big enough that I can just kick back and relax. It’s the lack of cruise control that’s the bigger issue.
Maybe your original owner didn’t want the extra weight. Haha.

Could be - it’s definitely half a pound saved!
My crown vic doesn’t have a dead pedal of any sorts, and I think you’re right about the seating position - my legs are so much more vertical in it that it’s a lot easier to get comfortable without somewhere to rest the foot.

Must be the low H point that is bothering you then. Interesting.
