Jesus Christ you have the worst fucking roads I’ve ever seen, and I’ve traveled in third world countries. Maybe you should spend less money on ten commandment roadsigns and more on road maintenance, eh? I mean, this is a nice enough state, but your roads are fuuuuuuuuuucked

Also, why does Kansas become Can-saw, just because you put AR in front of it.

I personally feel most states need to stop taking money from roads and maintenance for their other bs, Either budget correctly the first time or don’t fucking do it.

So, can I deduce that you’re at the Little Rock Hilton? Not a bad joint as I recall. Been years, though.

Are they worse than Pennsylvania?

Apparently, there is no Hilton in Little Rock anymore. I’m in some Ascension hotel that is unreasonably nice for $140/night.

Somehow, yes. And Pennsylvania is a state where they’ll spill a lump of asphalt and leave it until it weathers down.

You clearly haven’t been to Oklahoma.

Don’t bother, it’s actual hell.

(also, Arkansas has some great driving roads)

I think I just stayed on 40 the whole way. Whatever comes out of Memphis.

You’ve not spent much time in the rural south, have you?

This is my first time. I can’t complain, except people are not as polite as they are in NY/NJ/PA. That Southern hospitality stuff is kind of bullshit.

Can confirm. Drove part of the Pig Trail this summer. Driving across southern AR is like driving on the moon, but northern AR is gorgeous.

I have driven that road at least twice (both directions), and it is hell on earth. When we planned our vacation last month, I expressly said that I am NOT driving across southern AR again.

We Wichitoppos did too, it was amazing.

Tennessee had tons of construction, but it was otherwise okay. Arkansas is just pot holes, uneven pavement, and generally fucked up roads. Virginia, on the other hand, had the nicest roads I’ve ever been on.

81 through to Tennessee.

81. It was damned pretty.

But did you enjoy all the trucks? I hate driving on 81 and will actively avoid it.

I actually kind of liked it. I wasn’t in a rush, so I would just pick a truck between rest stops and set cruise control. Usually that meant doing 10 or so under the limit, but it was relaxing, since everyone could see the truck in front of me and I didn’t have to deal with tailgating.

The only time it bothered me was on steep grades.

One of the most beautiful roads in America. I went to school at James Madison in Harrisonburg farther up 81. Also, the stretch of I-64 west from Lexington, through the Washington and Jefferson Nat’l Forests is breathtaking. Not very many cars on it, either.

I know, I grew up there and have lived in two other states since, and they are still the worst roads I’ve personally experienced, even New Jersey and New York* are better

*outside NYC and the post apocalyptic areas of upstate, like Gloversville and Amsterdam.

But, apparently it does get worse.

I was feeling self-conscious about New Jersey until I hit Arkansas.
