>Always splurge to get Jack Daniels over Jim Beam. The later just tastes like literal fire water and the former tastes like a mossy rock from the bottom of a creek (vastly preferable)
>Both Arizona sweet tea and McDonalds sweet tea costs a dollar. So why the fuck would anyone ever buy McDonald’s sweet tea unless they’re eating there? It tastes like the melted a lump of sugar and mixed it with the dish water. (WHY WOULD THEY EVEN HAVE DISH WATER IF THEY DON’T HAVE DISHES?)
>Why can privates be trusted with the privilege of buying liquor from gas stations, but the general population can’t?
>Any bad whiskey can be made acceptable with enough sweet tea.

Jack Daniels is fine, but for sipping, Knob Creek is where it’s at.

I’ll have to try it sometime soon. The only “good” liquor I’ve had was tequilla which was amazing. Forget the company though.

Life advice - eagle rare whiskey is only a few bucks more than Jack Daniels. It is amazing for 30$. So is tomatin 12 year aged single malt scotch. I don’t buy jack anymore.

Tip Evan Williams is cheaper than Jim Beam and tastes much better. It is still not as good as Jack, but is definitely better than Jim.

Evan Williams is like half the price of Jack and I like it better. I like Evan Williams better than whiskeys 2-3x the cost.

Knob creek is very good, but I only have Ezra Brooks money; it still tastes better than Jim Beam.

If we’re going with mid-range bourbon I like me some Buffalo Trace. Also, I love me some rye, Bulleit Rye is what’s up in that same price range.

Pretty good stuff for about $22.. I’ve never thought of mixing it with anything, preferring it on the rocks.
And remember, observe the 8 hour bottle-to-throttle rule and don’t drink and fly...

Or an Asian country that drinks unsweet tea.

Dear Every Single Motherfucking One of You Who Got It Wrong,
It’s Jack Daniel’s. With an apostrophe. As in it belongs to Jack Daniel. Without an “s” at the end of his name (before a possessive apostrophe is added).
That is all.

Only garbage sweet tea tastes like sugar water. Good sweet tea still tastes like tea.

No no no. When buying bourbon, you find one that’s between $20 and $30 that has a label depicting a mood relative to the one you’re in. If you just got a large cash infusion, pick one that’s between $30 and $40, knowing you’re wasting $10.
That way you always get to try something new.

Jim Bean is terrible, you have that part. However, there are numerous whiskeys that are superior to Jack which cost less.

It’s damn good bourbon. My pops has a few bottles stashed away. We got some Pappy Van Winkles at a cigar/bourbon bar the other week and Blanton’s is better.

I’ve done extensive testing of the cheaper bourbons in my younger years (living in an apartment by myself in the city left me plenty of time). I started with the cheap stuff and progressively worked my way up to more expensive on the PA liquor store shelves. Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey 101, Maker’s Mark, and possibly Rebel Yell are the only ones that I’ve found to taste even slightly different. And I’m not 100% sure on the Rebel Yell. Everything else up to Maker’s Mark tasted the same to me, and unfortunately by the time I got up to that price range, I had to end my test due to other financial matters (house and ring), so I don’t know if Maker’s Mark is just another outlier, or if they actually start changing at that point.

But it’s worth it. Light years ahead of JD.

What I’ve learned.
American ‘whiskey’ Jack Daniels, Jim Bean, Southern Comfort, etc... , okay for mixing.
Scotch, meh (except Auchentoshan which is triple distilled and tastes like a good Irish whiskey).
Irish, yes yes yes (blendeds are okay and with a little mixer).

I second the motion
And drink it like this
1 teaspoon simple syrup
2 dashes orange bitters
2 oz. Blantons
Build the ingredients in a rocks glass, add some ice, and give it an orange twist. If you find you don’t like your Old Fashioned getting watered down, try using a bigger ice cube, which will melt slower, or you can even stir the ingredients with ice to chill and dilute it just a touch, and then strain it into the glass without ice. This would be having it “up,” instead of “on the rocks” and it really is just a matter of preference.
