Playing Army. And please don’t get me wrong: we have the Second Amendment and I’m all about that. I’m just not feeling these GI Joe wannabes. They’re probably all repressed... NVM.

I get it. We’re allowed to own guns. But for some strange reason I don’t trust them.

Even if you are protesting, bringing high powered rifles isn’t going to help any situation.

So much compensating going on in that picture.

I saw a meme that made a lot of sense— it showed one of these open carry nutjobs with the caption, “ Doesn’t trust anybody, but expects us to trust him. ”

I think “high powered” is not the right term here. Just being pedantic. Their rifles are all variants of the AR-15 assault rifle. You could say AR-15, simply AR, or assault rifle. I think of high powered rifles as more of a hunting rifle for bringing down big game and probably bolt action, single-shot.

And I entirely agree with you. Unlikely those guys have the training necessary to allow them to act safely, even if the feces did hit the fan. Very unnerving. And I am a Second Amendment subscriber.

AR15 =/= assault rifle. It does not have a select fire ability like it’s M16 cousin. 5.56/2.23 rounds are far from high powered.

I’d recommend not calling people names ( nutjob ). Just a general suggestion. The folks who do the open carry thing, where the law is maybe not crystal clear, are making their point, and they also risk losing their precious firearms in the process. Not a risk I’d consider taking.

That’s a lot of money they’ve spent, not least, on 300 rounds of ammunition that the one guy looks to have.

And trust: it takes a lot of training to safely carry and use a firearm, training witch most folks don’t have. Some of these guys might be ex-SEALs or whatever, but many of them likely are not.

Very unnerving especially, I should think, to the police.

I meant to mention how tiny and light the .223/5.56 bullet is, but I forgot. I wasn’t trying to sound like a know-it-all, just to be helpful where someone might not have known many ins and outs.

My cousin lives in Virginia and has an AR-15 with an 11-inch barrel and select fire, full auto capability, and the appropriate federal registration for it. We frequently use a .22 conversion gadget and pump a bunch of 22LR through it.

CPD would have been entirely in their power and correct rights to have detained everyone, taken all parephenalia into evidence, and flexxy cuffed them on the side of the road so they would still be able to protest “them lefties and daggum O-dummer trying to steal muh rights”. And at least entangle these faux-triots in some red tape to get their tacticool gear back.

Also, fuck these guys and fuck anyone who identifies as a veteran and then flagrantly supports/salutes Nazism.

My hot take:

IF you are a US vet and you are found to be supporting fascist and Nazi groups/flags then you are instantly no longer recipient of your benefits. To those absolute shitheads who make me ashamed to be:

1. an American

and

2. a veteran

Getting full-auto capability legally is incredibly expensive, time-consuming, and difficult, requiring a ton of paperwork and additional procedure. Hardly anyone actually goes through the trouble, as the only benefit you get is going through expensive ammunition faster. It’s certainly not the norm, and doesn’t change that “AR” does not mean “assault rifle”, but “Armalite Rifle” after the original company to manufacture them. They do not meet the definition of an assault rifle, and it just bugs me when people keep perpetuating that terminology.
Also, 11 inch barrel classifies it as a “short barrel rifle” or SBR, which requires MORE taxes/fees and paperwork to get an NFA tax stamp and set up a trust.

Here in Wisconsin, when concealed carry was passed, it included a provision allowing businesses to post “no firearms” signs on their doors.

Maybe a month ago, I was at the supermarket, and I happened upon this asshole wearing a t-shirt with some kind of stupid joke about his AR-15, and a couple of pistols in very visible armpit holsters. I don’t care what the technical term for armpit holsters is, because I’m not the type of asshole who equips himself with pistols in armpit holsters to buy groceries.

Unfortunately for my distaste of Second Amendment Man going all second amendment up in the produce section, a sympathetic customer service counter employee told me that unfortunately there were no such “no firearms” signs posted at this supermarket. He also said, “I don’t know what’s with these people coming in here with all these guns on display, it’s not like this is Texas.”

I don’t give a fuck what someone thinks about their rights under the second amendment are, go make your stupid point somewhere else. I want to buy some damn arugula, beets, lentils, organic chicken, and bean-based Cheeto substitutes without having to worry about where your crazy ass is in the store.

Kinja'd!!!

Mmmm, now I feel better.

.223/5.56 is not “high powered”. You can blame the media for that one, it’s a round that is too small to legally hunt deer.

Something like $10,000, I think, or maybe that’s what he said it’s worth now. Anyhow, the whole reason I said all of that to that other was because it also wasn’t a high-powered rifle and that to me is one of those lightning flag terms that shows abject firearm ignorance.

He also has a suppressed .22 pistol. Last summer, his neighbor brought over an M-60 and I burned a couple of 100-rd strips. There was also a Thompson submachine gun, which is surprisingly large and heavy.

But my FAVORITE firearm of his to shoot is his Ruger Super Alaskan in .454 Casull. He had some extra-hot loads and it was a blast to shoot. My hands are strong enough to enjoy shooting it.

1. That is food porn.

2. I’m with you on the Second Amendment. I’m all over it, we have it, and that settles it. But it doesn’t give citizens the right to be a complete moron.

3. I was at a business today in Union City, California, near where I live and work. It was an LKQ and I was returning an engine core and a transmission core and there was a No Firearms sign on the door and I asked the guy working there about it. Almost NOBODY can CCW in California and if you were going to carry one anyhow, are you really going to change your mind when the boss has pasted up that sign?

4. Texas? My brother lives in Austin and a few summers ago I visited him and went into a Payless Shoe Source and they had an armed guard posted inside the door. Wouldn’t see that in California, either.
