My next project for the ranger is going to be a fuel/trip computer. I know that you can buy ones that plug right into the OBDII port, but those are for suckers. Also I don’t want something that has to stay plugged into the OBDII port, and I’m planning to flush mount the screen somewhere.
So have any Oppos done this via Arduino/Raspberry Pi? I’ve got half a dozen Pi’s laying around but from everything I’ve read, this sounds like a job for Arduino.

That thing is pretty cool, the screen is larger than I would like but this is a good fall back if I pull my hair out going the DIY route.

Oh haha. I mean I don’t need it, I use the calculator method every time I fill up. However, I want to make the ranger as nice and as modern as I can.

If you want to make it as factory as possible, you should find a Ford TripMinder trip computer from the 80s and then wire it up using these instructions and a wiring diagram for your Ranger.
It’s just the thingie on the left, not the door ajar indicator. It might only work on 1993 or earlier Fords, or 1994s with modifications, and I have no idea what year your Ranger is and whether it’s actually compatible.
The second gen Explorer had this Message Center as an option and maybe that could be integrated as well.

Oh Snap! The trip minder is awesome, I didn’t even know about it. I’ve got such a boner for factory stuff. There is a perfect spot for it too, in the compartment next to the passenger airbag switch. My Ranger is an 2001, but I’m sure I can make it work.
For a while I was considering power/leather bucket seats from an explorer and the console/computer to match. After I did the wood console in mine I decided to keep the bench and plan to have it recovered with leather.

Yea the more I dig in, the more I’m thinking of going the OBD route. I found an angled OBDII extension cable so that nothing would protrude from the port. I also found this super cool one from Reveltronics. It’s kind of like the Arduino, but all of the really hard work is done, and I can get a green oled screen to match the rest of the gauges too.
